The recent announcements by the US White House of tariffs against Canadian imports and the retaliatory tariffs announced by our Prime Minister are extremely unsettling. A trade war with our country’s largest customer could be very disruptive and punitive. One of the immediate responses we’re witnessing even before any tariffs have taken effect is a groundswell of “buy Canadian” sentiment. Canadians have a proud history of standing up against oppression, and we believe this “buy Canadian” movement will continue to gain momentum.
This presents both a risk and an opportunity for our business. People may see “Mobil” or “Esso” and think “American”, but Global Fuels is a proudly Canadian-owned and operated business. Our head-office is in Burlington, Ontario; we only have sites in Canada, and all our employees are Canadian and live in Canada. We license the use of the Mobil and Esso fuel brand and buy all our fuel from Imperial Oil, a company that was founded in Ontario in 1880, has its head-office in Calgary, Alberta, only has operations in Canada, and only processes Canadian crude oil.
