Seeking Public Opinion: MASK MANDATE: This customer came to the gas station a few mins ago. My employee asked her nicely that she needs a mask. She said she doesn't have one on her. My employee politely told her that its a provincial public health order to wear a mask in public places and we cannot allow her to be in the store without a mask. She then told my employee that she has a medical condition and is exempt from wearing a mask. My employee gave her my number and she told me the same thing. I asked her to show some kind of proof to my employee and we will be more than happy to serve her. As soon as I said that she started threatening me with a lawsuit and screamed at my employee. She called him a fu***ing immigrant and few other rude things and left the store.
As a small business owner, we are trying to survive the situation. My employees are just trying to follow the provincial health order . We hear so many different excuses everyday from customers to not wear a mask so it is really hard for us to distinguish between who is telling the truth and who is lying.
Just want to hear from FB users what a small business owner should do in this kind of situation?
1. Should we let people shop without a mask and pray that we do not get fined.
2. Try our best to educate the customer that its a provincial health order and if they dont agree then we cannot serve them
3. Does an unhappy customer have a right to harass an employee who is just trying to do his job?
