CDC SET FOR MAJOR OPPOSITION ROUND TABLE THIS SATURDAY

The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) is preparing to bring together several opposition figures and political stakeholders for a major roundtable discussion on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

Among those invited are Nimba County Senator Samuel Kogar, Gbarpolu County Senator Amara Konneh, and former Associate Justice Kabineh Mohammed Ja’neh. Senator Thomas Yaya Nimely of Grand Gedeh County is also expected to be part of the gathering.

The meeting, which will be held at the Jamaica Resort, is being convened under the leadership of CDC Political Leader and former President George Manneh Weah.

The CDC says the Saturday discussion will focus on strengthening cooperation among opposition figures and finding common ground on issues affecting the country.

A separate meeting with political parties is scheduled for Sunday, September 6, at 4:00 PM, at the same venue.

The ANC, ALP, CMC, MPC, and MOVEE, among other political parties, are expected to participate.

The CDC says the meetings are part of efforts to build stronger opposition coordination and promote dialogue on Liberia’s governance and national interests.

Former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has been granted compassionate release from detention.

Criminal Court “C” Judge Ousman F. Feika made the decision today following a request from Howard-Taylor’s legal team, who cited her medical condition and the need for treatment outside detention.

The court has attached conditions to the release, including the surrender of her travel documents. Her visits at home will also be limited to a family member, her doctor and physician assistant.

Police Testify That Jewel Howard-Taylor Allegedly Predicted George Weah’s Assassination

A police official has testified in court that an audio recording allegedly captured former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor saying that former President George Weah would be assassinated after three years in office, with a group then taking his body.

The testimony was presented Friday during the preliminary examination into the case involving Howard-Taylor, who faces multiple charges linked to an alleged transnational co***ne-trafficking network.

The case is connected to the seizure of about 4.2 tonnes of co***ne reportedly valued at approximately US$317 million. Howard-Taylor has denied the allegations, while the prosecution is presenting evidence it says links her to the alleged network.

The allegations presented in court have not been proven. Howard-Taylor remains presumed innocent unless found guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
