Our first woman distiller? That’s Maddy. 🥃✨

Maddy joined John Sleeman & Sons in 2022, slinging cocktails in the Ward Bar while studying Biomedical Science at the University of Guelph. What started as a side job for extra cash turned into years of joking about “needing more women in the distillery.”

Then one day, John O’Hara told her to apply, and this time, it wasn’t a joke.

Now, three years later, Maddy’s traded shakers for mash bills as our very first woman distiller, bringing her science smarts, curiosity, and hard work to every batch.

Hold onto your hats...there’s a new sheriff in town 🤠🥃

Introducing High Rye Straight Whisky, a delectable new whisky made from corn, barley, and rye and aged in a virgin American Oak barrels. Delightfully smooth, oaky, with a whisper of sweet, all balanced out with a dry spice of rye grain.

This new variation of straight whisky (You heard us) is fermented, distilled, and matured from a mash bill featuring rye, and a good lot of it, too. In contrast to our sweet and mild Traditional Straight Whisky, the new High Rye Straight Whisky is a robust, peppery, southern-style whisky that packs a punch at 48% ABV.

Launch in Manitoba on July 15th and currently available exclusively from the distillery, in person and online. You can find the link in our bio.

Introducing Maple Brûlée, a decadent new release crafted from 100% Canadian rye. 🍁

Aged for four years in oak and finished for six months in a re-fired maple syrup cask. The charred syrup left behind infuses this whisky with rich notes of burnt sugar, warming spice, and soft, toasty sweetness - kind of like the best parts of a slow Sunday brunch.

Aromas of dark sugar and spice give way to a long, smooth finish.

This is a very limited release, available now online and at the distillery while it lasts. 👋✨

Day 17 of 30 Days of Local Food: Craft Gin Trail

I couldn’t decide which of local gin distiller to highlight for my 30 days, so I’m offering them all in today. Distilling is one of the oldest industries in this part of the world, and this area is home to some historically significant ones (Seagram’s). Regulation changes has brought in a new crop of craft distillers a few years ago. I visited many on the Craft Gin Trail this summer. Each has their own takes on my favourite spirit, and most have other spirits on the go (whisky, rum, voddy, etc) as well as premixes.

February is shaping up to be a fun one!

You can catch John, Cooper, and Quinn at the Whisky Wonderland Festival in Ottawa February 20-22. We’re doing a masterclass tasting as well as a booth at the main event!

John and Cooper are hitting up the Winnipeg Whisky Festival February 28-March 1, and they’re also sampling our new-to-Manitoba whiskies at the Madison Square Liquor Mart on March 1st from 1-3pm.  ._

Drink if: You like flavours of malt and fruit

Our Sherry Finished Single Malt was a bit of an experiment. With two Sherry casks on hand, we decided to take a chance on using them to finish some of our already 4-year-old Single Malt. It was a good call!

While finishing Single Malt in a Sherry cask is far from an original concept, it was exactly what our young Single Malt needed to round out its flavours and take it from not-quite-there-yet to a delightfully malty and deliciously fruity whisky.

The Sherry Finished Single Malt boasts aromas of pear and chocolate, flavours of honey and toffee, and a stone fruit and gently spiced finish.

Available exclusively through the distillery, you can grab a bottle in our retail store or for home delivery from our website.
