Today is a special day at Pettes Cove Arts; it's a day full of love, grief, and so many memories. Today, on what would have been his 80th birthday, we remember Mike Stymest—a gifted artisan, talented musician, and, above all, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Mike began making jewellery, a certified gemologist, in the early 1970s, creating pieces that reflected his passion, creativity, and remarkable attention to detail. His work showcased not only exceptional skill but also an artistic vision that left a lasting impression. His legacy continues to live on through every piece inspired by his hands and a client's dreams - ask Sue sometime to see his "Hole in the Wall" ring.

Beyond the workbench, music was another of Mike's great passions. He played bass with The Canadian Strangers and had the opportunity to perform alongside the legendary Chuck Berry, bringing as much joy to audiences as he took with him whenever and wherever he played.

Anyone who knew Mike also knew his one-of-a-kind sense of humour. At any gathering, there was a good chance he'd either pick up his guitar or the leather bound family dictionary to entertain everyone in the house. Whether he was playing music, telling stories, or flipping through pages to find the perfect (or most unexpected) word, he had a way of making people laugh.

But to those who knew him best, Mike was much more than an artist or musician. He was a loving husband, a proud father, and "Gee" (IYKYK)—a grandfather whose love, wisdom, humour, steady presence and seemingly endless patience shaped the lives of our family.

Although Mike has been gone since 2015, not a day goes by that he isn't remembered. His creativity, musicianship, laughter, and unwavering love for his family continue to inspire us.

Happy 80th Birthday, Mike, Daddy, Gee. ❤️

Thank you for the music, the artistry, the laughter, and the love. Your legacy lives on in every story shared, every piece of jewellery treasured, and in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to have known you.
