Just a short stroll from the High Level Bridge here in the heart of Edmonton, our team has been reflecting on how our local skyline is changing for the better. Seeing more Indigenous flags flying alongside the Maple Leaf across our city is a powerful sight that sparks a lot of great conversations in our shop. We often find that understanding the protocol behind these flags is a lot like a community block party. Everyone has a specific spot at the table to ensure the guest of honour is properly recognized and respected. When you get that arrangement right, the whole street feels more welcoming and unified. Our team has spent years helping our neighbours navigate these meaningful traditions to ensure every flag is flown with the dignity it deserves. 🍁

We've mapped out the full details and local considerations in our latest guide. See the first comment below:

In the UK, there’s an official law in place that makes it illegal to “handle salmon in suspicious circumstances”.

You read that right… that’s the Salmon act of 1986, and it’s still in effect to this day.

Sounds a bit odd for sure, but there’s actually a serious purpose behind it; the law makes it illegal to receive, remove, or dispose of fish if you know (or reasonably suspect) that it was caught, sold, or landed illegally.

Sounds reasonable to me!

But now you know: if you’re ever in the UK, handle your salmon… unsuspiciously? 🐟

You can spot tens of thousands of abandoned barns everywhere here in Alberta, but in Germany, it’s like that… but with castles. There’s over 20,000 of them scattered across the country! Wild.

Walked in for one flag, walked out with five. This place is dangerous.

🌴 Did you know? Jamaica’s flag is the only national flag in the world with no red, white, or blue! And their flag’s colours actually have an interesting history:

⚫ strength & creativity
🟡 wealth & sunshine
🟢 lush land & hope
