Happy first day of school! 🎒🍎

To everyone beginning a new school year, from kindergarten through to college and university, I hope the year ahead brings good friends, new experiences, and plenty of reasons to smile.

A little advice as you head back: do your best, ask for help when you need it, and be kind to yourself and the people around you. You do not have to have everything figured out on the first day.

Schoolwork is important, but there is so much more to you than a mark on a test. Your effort, your ideas, and the way you treat people matter, too.

One of the best parts of being here at Dave’s Variety is getting to watch so many of you grow up. The kindness, humour, and spirit you bring through the door give me plenty of reasons to feel good about the future. I hope you can see that same promise in yourselves.

Look out for one another today, especially anyone who might be feeling nervous or left out. A simple hello or an invitation to join in can mean more than you realize.

Have a wonderful first day, and come tell me how it goes! I look forward to hearing about your summers and what you are excited about this year.

To the families, teachers, and school staff, I hope the year gets off to a great start for you, too.

Back-to-school is almost here, and we know that this time of year can bring lots of excitement, but also lots of nerves. The good thing is that while change is not always easy, we are all in the same boat, and every day will get a little easier.

We thought we would try to make back-to-school feel a little sweeter, so we have a limited supply of Dave’s Back-to-School Surprise Bags.

So, if you are looking for a pretty sweet backpack filled with a fun assortment of candies and a toy to celebrate the first day, we might have the perfect treat for you!

Norfolk County Fire Department 2026 recruitment is now OPEN!

Stations currently recruiting include:
🚒 Station 1 (Simcoe)
🚒 Station 5 (Delhi)
🚒 Station 6 (Courtland)
🚒 Station 7 (Langton)
🚒 Station 8 (Fairground)
🚒 Station 9 (Port Rowan)
🚒 Station 10 (St. Williams)
🚒 Station 11 (Vittoria)
Residents interested in becoming volunteer firefighters are encouraged to attend one of two open house events. The sessions are open to applicants applying to any of the eight stations recruiting. The open house will provide an opportunity to meet local firefighters, tour the station, learn about the recruitment process, and ask questions.

THANK YOU, STUDENTS!

As another school year comes to an end, I just wanted to thank all the students who stopped by the store this year.

The construction out front made getting to the store a little more challenging, but so many of you still made the extra effort to stop in. More importantly, you were always kind, respectful, patient, and friendly.

Running a small business is about so much more than making sales. It is about the people you meet along the way, and I have been lucky to get to know so many great young people this year. You have been a wonderful group of students, and the future looks bright with all of you in it.

Thank you for making this another great school year. I hope each of you has a safe, relaxing, and well-deserved summer!
