Kilchoman bestaat 20 jaar!!!
Kilchoman Distillery is een relatief jonge, maar invloedrijke Schotse whiskystokerij op het eiland Islay. Ze werd opgericht in 2005 door Anthony Wills en was de eerste nieuwe distilleerderij op Islay in meer dan 124 jaar. Kilchoman onderscheidt zich door haar “farm-to-bottle”-benadering: een deel van hun gerst wordt op hun eigen boerderij, Rockside Farm, verbouwd en gemout.
De distilleerderij is kleinschalig, traditioneel en ambachtelijk, en produceert voornamelijk geturfde whisky in de typische Islay-stijl. Hun eerste botteling, Inaugural Release, kwam uit in 2009. Sindsdien heeft Kilchoman zich snel gevestigd als een gerespecteerd merk, bekend om zijn jonge maar karaktervolle whisky’s. Ondertussen heeft ze bij ons de status 'Kilchoman ontgoochelt nooit!' bereikt.
Om dit 20-jarig jubileum te vieren hebben ze 4 nieuwe bottelingen op de markt gezet. Geselecteerd door Anthony Wills, oprichter van Kilchoman, belichamen deze whisky's twee decennia van vakmanschap, passie en innovatie. Beperkte edities: Slechts 20 vaten geselecteerd voor dit jubileum, verdeeld over 4 bottelingen. Niet koud gefilterd, geen kleurstoffen toegevoegd: Voor behoud van authenticiteit. Een eerbetoon aan de geest van Islay: Turf, complexiteit en elegantie in perfecte harmonie.
Ontdek deze 4 unieke referenties, elk gerijpt in zorgvuldig geselecteerde vaten om onderscheidende en memorabele aromatische profielen te onthullen:
1. Kilchoman 14 jaar Ex-Bourbon Barrels (51,2% vol)
Nose: Soft and full-bodied with rich caramel and toffee, complemented by hints of lemon zest and subtle peat smoke. Palate: Lush and smooth, with sweet toffee and vanilla, followed by lemon curd notes and a light, integrated peat smoke. Finish: Long and warming, with lingering honey sweetness and a crisp, smoky citrus finish.
2. Kilchoman 14 jaar Ex-Sherry Butts (55% vol)
Nose: Fresh and spicy with bold BBQ smoke, black pepper, and rich dried fruits. Palate: Intense, with warming spices and dried dates on the palate. A touch dark chocolate and herbal liquorice balancing the spice. Finish: Long and full of flavour, with lingering sweet spices, rich BBQ meats and subtle integrated peat smoke.
3. Kilchoman 15 jaar Ex-Sherry Butts (51,7% vol)
Nose: Soft with a peppery spice, rich sherry sweetness, and a hint of salty, briny notes. Palate: Rounded and rich in character, with a peppery kick, sherry soaked dark fruits, and a gentle smokiness bringing a savoury, briny character. Finish: Viscous and warming, with rich fruits, salty dark chocolate, and a lasting balance of sweetness and smoke.
4. Kilchoman 18 jaar Ex-Bourbon Barrels (46% vol)
Nose: Full-bodied with a strong cask influence after 18 years, offering rich butterscotch, vanilla, and caramel, along with hints of toasted oak. Palate: Robust, with sweet caramel and toffee fruits, balanced by a touch of peat smoke and subtle saltiness in the background. Finish: Long with lasting toffee and butterscotch, and a hint of maritime smoke that rounds off the finish.
