I’m Giusi, a whisky enthusiast and hospitality professional, born in Italy and living in Utrecht for nearly a decade. After spending many years working behind the bar, training teams and helping people discover new flavours, I’m very excited to be joining the SMWS team!

If I had to pick only one flavour profile it would certainly be "smoky and fruity". What I love most about whisky is everything that happens around the glass: the stories, the people, the conversations, and those unexpected experiences that arise when you try a dram you might never have chosen for yourself.

I’m looking forward to meeting more Society members, sharing some great drams, and hopefully helping a few more people fall in love with "the golden drop" along the way.

Elgin Marvels: Icons from Speyside

One town. Two vastly different whisky creation stories. The Elgin Marvels we are concerned with are liquid in form, with two outstanding bottlings from the same lovely wee town at the centre of Moray Speyside.

Cask No. 35.405: Statuesque elegance has had a lot more of our input into what it has become over the course of 38 years, while Cask No. 7.286: Fruit bomb frieze has been left very much alone since it was distilled back in 1992 and given 33 years of undisturbed maturation in a refill bourbon hogshead.

Our Smoke & Symphony pair brings our Bold & Peaty and Sweet & Zesty flavour profiles together. This unlikely pairing puts smoke, sticky honey and figs next to poached pears, yellow roses and warming spices for the ultimate compare and contrast.

Cask No. 29.313: Jaffa Baklava
This 10-year-old Islay whisky was matured in an ex-bourbon barrel before being transferred to a first-fill American oak ex-PX barrel for the remainder of its maturation. It offers notes of smoked baklava topped with hazelnuts from the hamper, before adding plates of sweet iced biscuits and fruit cake, and a vase of geraniums in rosewater.

Cask No. 84.39: Symphony in yellow
This 17-year-old Speyside whisky was matured in a refill ex-bourbon hogshead and carries notes of vanilla cream and crème brûlée while the nose nose created a curious symphony of yellow aromas – pineapple, lemon puffs, yellow roses, poached pears
