Beer has a long history — and women were a big part of it.

🍺Thousands of years ago, in ancient Mesopotamia, brewing beer was mainly done by women. Later in medieval Europe, many women brewed and sold beer from their homes. They were known as “alewives.”

🧹Some historians even believe that the classic “witch” image — pointed hats, big boiling pots, and brooms outside the house — may have been inspired by these medieval brewsters who sold beer in markets.

A small reminder that women have been part of beer culture for centuries.
