Sagamore Spirit hails from Baltimore, Maryland, a region synonymous with the production of rye since early US settlement.

Since 2013 the distillery has collected more than 200 awards including World’s Best Rye Whisky for a Port cask finished Whisky.

Fun fact: Sagamore was co-founded by Kevin Plank, the CEO of sportswear brand Under Armour.

The 2025 Perth Royal Beer Awards were held last night at Claremont Showgrounds, and Nelio & Guy attended to present the Copper & Oak Liquor Merchant Trophies.

Each year we sponsor these awards as part of our commitment to the industry, its community & culture. On top of this, last week Guy spent two gruelling days judging beers with 44 other beer judges.

Congratulations to White Lakes Brewing for winning the Copper & Oak Liquor Merchants Trophy for Best Packaged Lager 2025 for 100 Day Pilsner. 🏆

And congratulations to Otherside Brewing for winning the Copper & Oak Liquor Merchants Trophy for Best Packaged Pale Ale 2025 with Anthem - IPA. 🏆

Delord Armagnac makes a welcome return to Copper & Oak Liquor Merchants.

Four generations of descendants Prosper Delord have made Armagnac in Bas-Armagnac, the lowest sub-region, since 1893.

Armagnac is a French, grape based Brandy that is distilled once in a continuous column still resulting in a more complex spirit when compared to its cousin Cognac. Although they share naming conventions with VSOP (Very Special Old Pale) being aged in oak for a minimum of 4 years, and X.O. (Extra Old) for a minimum of 10 years. Récolte refers to the year of the grape vintage.

Stonegaze Isabella 2022 (13.2% abv) is a Bordeaux-style blend sourced from premium Margaret River fruit.

Made in the Left Bank, or Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, style, this lush red wine also welcomes Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot.

Luis Cañas hails from Spain’s Rioja Alavesa region, one of the three sub-regions famous for Rioja wine.

Here, the family owned winery has been growing grapes & producing wine for over 200 years before formally establishing the Luis Cañas winery in 1928.

These three red wines follow the Rioja classification of Crianza (Aged 2 years with +1 year in barrels), Riserva (Aged 3 years with +1 year in barrels & +6 months in bottles) and Gran Riserva (Aged 5 years with +2 years in barrels & +2 years in bottles)

Rioja wines are Tempranillo based and are ready for roast pork, tomato based dishes and, naturally, chorizo.

Congratulations to all of the Western Australian winners from last week’s Australian International Beer Awards.

This selection all collected a Gold medal, with King Road’s NZ Cryo and Boundary Island’s The Deckie IPA winning a trophy! 🏆

Of special mention is Boundary Island’s Estuary XPA which was awarded a Consistency of Excellence Medal for wining a Gold medal three years running - an amazing achievement of technical prowess.
