Another Indian mead tasting 🇮🇳🍯
This time it’s Maeve’s Mavri Banana Caramel Mead — semi-dry and a rather surprising 15% ABV.
The first thing that struck me was just how incredibly light it is in the glass. The banana and caramel are both there, but neither dominates — they’re quite subdued and nicely balanced rather than sweet or heavy as the name might suggest.
Lightly sparkling, semi-dry and extremely drinkable. Most impressive is how well it hides that 15% alcohol — you certainly wouldn’t pick it from the glass.
I think this might actually be my favourite from Maeve so far.
Really enjoying getting to taste some of the different approaches to mead being taken here in India. 🇮🇳🐝🍯

🍯 Exploring Indian Mead – Two Very Pleasant Surprises! 🇮🇳🐝

Of course, we couldn't visit India without sampling some of the local meads!

Today we're tasting two offerings from Maeve by Mbrosia, and both have been delightful.

🍺 Braggot – Malty Dry Mead

A lovely balance of malt and honey, with just a touch of residual honey sweetness and a light, delicate hop character. The carbonation is excellent, with fine, lively bubbles giving it a refreshing and beautifully balanced finish.

What's particularly impressive is how approachable it is. Even someone who isn't normally a b**r drinker could thoroughly enjoy this braggot. Nothing overpowering, just a very pleasant, easy-drinking experience.

🌿 Traditional Mint – Dry Mead

This one really surprised me! I was expecting the mint to dominate, but it doesn't at all.

Instead, it's wonderfully clean, crisp and bone dry, with the mint adding a subtle, refreshing lift rather than taking centre stage. Delicate, restrained and exceptionally drinkable.

The verdict? Two very different styles, both beautifully refreshing and thoroughly enjoyable.

It's always exciting to experience how other mead makers approach this ancient drink, particularly here in India, where the emerging mead industry is doing some interesting things.

Craftastic Overseas owner Hamza travelled 4 hours to meet with us in Delhi, bringing handmade horn picture frames and local artisan sweets.
What a wonderful afternoon of conversation, laughs and business opportunities.
We were escorted to Old Dehli for a magnificent dinner of 2 local chicken dishes, the best we have eaten, the flavours were amazing!
Thank you Hamza for a very memorable experience 🤩
