RED HOT SUMMER POSTPONED
Due to the forecast of high a possibility of rain and thunderstorms for the entire weekend, Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway regrettably advises that this seasons Nutrend Quality Homes Red Hot Summer Shootout will be postponed.
This event will be packed up into an exciting 2-day fixture and moved later in the season to 11 & 12 April (Friday & Saturday), a week prior to the Harbour City Classic at McCosker Gladstone Speedway being held at Easter. This will give travelling teams a lot of reasons to head back north in April for two massive events paying a stack load of cash.
“Trust me when I say I’m gutted about this decision, because everyone has put so much work into it. But its not only us, it’s all the people that have taken annual leave and paid for flights and all the teams that have committed and built their season calendars around attending this cool race meeting. But given the forecast and given it’s been a genuine wet season up here of late, its not fare on anyone to take that kind of gamble, particular given the cost associated with everything right now. I can’t expect people to tear up thousands of dollars on a very low chance we can get this race meeting in – that’s not fair on anyone”, Events Manager Ryan Harris remarked.
At the time of writing the forecast is:
Friday – 70% chance of thunderstorms (5 – 10 mm)
Saturday – 80% chance of showers (1 – 5 mm)
Sunday – 80% chance of showers (5 – 10 mm)
Monday - 90% chance of rain (10 – 20 mm)
The 12 April was already the Queensland Speedway Spares Ultimate Sprintcar Championship Grand Final but with the revised format for the re-running of the Nutrend Quality Homes Red Hot (now Autumn) Shootout, night 1 feature race will effectively become the USC grand final race that will carry the points for this season USC Grand Final. Then on Saturday afternoon, the program continues with more heats, dashes and of course the 35-lap main event that will still carry a $20,000 first prize including $10,000 for second and most importantly we will increase the guaranteed minimum to $1,500 to start the night 2 main event.
All online tickets for this weekend will be refunded, with tickets for the rescheduled event in April going on sale in March once nominations start rolling.
The revised Supp Regs for the postponed event will be available on our website in the days ahead.
The Red Hot Summer Breakfast that was planned for Saturday morning will also be cancelled with all tickets being refunded which is such a disappointing result for what would have been a great way to kick off fundraising for this seasons Dondex Ultimate Pink Night with the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation for BreastScreen Toowoomba which will now be the next Sprintcar event in Toowoomba on 22 February.
