Amazing food, great w**e and warm conversation have a wonderful way of bringing people together. When you can share all three around a table and make a difference at the same time, that’s a pretty special afternoon.

Townsville, we’re getting around Ray and The Cure Starts Now. 💛

On 17 October, Ray Thompson is taking on the Breaking Point Challenge, raising funds to help find a cure for childhood brain cancer.
Before he takes on the challenge, we’re bringing people together for a special Sunday lunch at Polola — an afternoon of food, w**e, friendship and fundraising in support of Ray and The Cure Starts Now Australia.

How good is it to champion Queensland w**e!!

Adam has a cracking list of Granite Belt w**es and it was an absolute pleasure to pour them in Townsville on his behalf today at Urban W**e Walk and The Underground.

There’s some seriously cool s**t here that I don’t want flying under your radar.

Highlights for me that we didn’t pour today: the sweet(ish) Verdelho, Field Blend Pet Nat, Skinsy Boy (Orange W**e), Cabernet Durif and the Nebbiolo is an absolute star.

W**e in Townsville this weekend 🍷

After the Rugby Union Saturday, Justin, Jaz and I headed to The Hairy Coconut for the vibes. Ricca Terra - Australia’s Vineyard of Innovation Grenache Blanc, a Tiki cocktail it is not, but it is definitely refreshing, has texture and character as well as a brilliant Riverina farming story.

A Sunday farmers market trip ended up with Jaz and I invited to spend time with Phil and Shelly, where I was given the honour of selecting the afternoons tastings at The W**e Bar. A new HUGH HAMILTON W**ES order is incoming after enjoying the ‘Mongrel’ Sangiovese on a warm winter afternoon. French Cabernet Franc and Montepulciano from a producer our host knew personally also tickled the fancy of our friends.

Oh, and shout out to Rick Romeo for being a genuine entertainer and reading the room as always 🎶

Always a pleasure to be poured something that hasn’t even made it to the w**e list yet, thank you Elise.

This 2025 L.A.S. Vino Chardonnay reminded me of why I have had this w**ery listed by quite a few of the sommeliers and beverage directors I’ve worked with over the last 10 years.

In the glass, it is super well balanced, highlighted by a mid-palette creaminess with soft stone fruit and citrus characteristics that counter the natural fruit weight.

Wildberry Springs is a 30-year-old Wilyabrup vineyard on gravelly loam soils, featuring all gin-gin clone Chardonnay and is hand-picked and carefully crafted. 50% fermented in amphora and 50% in oak, this super intentional process is about bringing together purity, texture and subtle complexity with a soft, refined finish.
