Yamazaki 18 Year Old Japanese Whisky is the bottle you give yourself when you know you’ve earned it. Deep, elegant and beautifully layered, this is a whisky made for slowing down. Rich dried fruit, dark chocolate, soft spice and incense, finished with a long, warming depth that stays with you.

This is the flagship single malt from the House of Suntory, crafted at Japan’s first and oldest malt distillery. It’s matured in a thoughtful mix of American, Spanish and rare Japanese Mizunara oak, giving Yamazaki its signature complexity and calm confidence.

Yamazaki 18 Whisky has taken out the Supreme Champion Spirit Trophy at the International Spirits Challenge 2025. The highest honour.

Hakushu 18 Year Old Japanese Whisky is a Christmas gift for someone who doesn’t want the obvious choice. Fresh, complex, and beautifully restrained, this is Japanese whisky at its most thoughtful. Crisp green notes, soft herbs, a gentle wisp of smoke and a clean, elegant finish that feels calm.

It’s made at Suntory’s mountain forest distillery, tucked deep into the slopes of Mt. Kaikomagatake, where the air is cool, the water is pure, and time moves a little slower. 🍷 Fighting Gully Sangiovese 2024 — A great little gem from Beechworth. Juicy cherry and savoury spice, made by Mark Walpole, who’s been growing grapes longer than most of us have been drinking them. It’s unfussy but seriously tasty.

🍷 Gilbert Pinot Noir 2023 — Light, bright, and silky with just a little spice. Will and Simon Gilbert (father and son) are sixth-gen winemakers out of Orange, and their wines always feel like they’ve been made with heart.

When you’ve had one of those weeks and just want a beer that's simple, reliable, made by people who actually care, this is it.

Fox Friday’s West Coast IPA is sharp, clean and actually tastes how beer should. Not sweet, not weird. Just bright citrus, a bit of bite, and enough bitterness to remind you it’s the weekend.

They’re a small team from Hobart who started brewing for their mates and somehow ended up running one of the best little breweries in the country. Just word of mouth and consistently good beer.

We’ve only got a handful of these in the fridge. Come grab one while it’s still fresh.

How to make the perfect mulled wine, every time.

Just what cold nights need. Here’s your go-to mulled wine recipe. Cosy, spiced and not overly sweet.

What you’ll need:
• 1 bottle of red (Shiraz, Grenache or Merlot works best)
• 2 cinnamon sticks
• 4 cloves
• 2 star anise
• 1 orange (sliced)
• 2 tbsp sugar, honey or maple syrup (add more to taste)
• Optional: lemon zest, a few cardamom pods, fresh ginger
• 1 shot of brandy or Cointreau

How to make it:
1. Add everything to a pot
2. Heat gently on low (don’t let it boil)
3. Let it steep for 20–30 mins
4. Taste and adjust sweetness
5. Strain and serve warm

Hosting? Keep it warm in a slow cooker or insulated pot.

This is one to open when you’ve cooked hearty roast and want a bottle that feels special.

The 2021 Chianti Classico from Istine is just straight-up delicious. Bright cherry, a little bit of spice, super fresh and clean. Tastes like something you’d drink with roast chicken or a pasta that’s had some love put into it. Just really good drinking.

It’s made by Angela Fronti, who grew up around vineyards in Tuscany and eventually took over her family’s patch. She’s not chasing big scores or headlines. She just makes wine the way she thinks it should taste and it shows. Everything’s grown organically and she vinifies each vineyard separately, which basically means you get a clearer sense of place in the glass.

Chianti Classico isn’t just a style. It’s a place. You can’t put it on the label unless the grapes are grown in that original heart of Tuscany between Florence and Siena. Hillier vineyards, cooler nights and older vines.

It’s been a long week and Dry July’s nearly done, so now’s the perfect time to crack a Heaps Normal and see the month out on a good note.

It actually tastes like real beer, cold, crisp, full of proper flavour. Without any of that weird aftertaste you get with some non-alcs. Just the kind of thing you’d want in your hand at a backyard BBQ or while cooking dinner midweek.

Heaps Normal started back in 2018, when finding a decent non-alc beer was almost impossible. A surfer, a brewer and a branding guy teamed up to change that. They wanted something that felt like part of Aussie drinking culture, just without the booze. Just a good beer that happens to be non-alc.

Now they’re part of a quiet shift of more people drinking a bit less, but still enjoying themselves. It’s not about quitting, it’s just about choice.

Hiatus Beers has nailed the brief. Founded in 2022, they’re all about brewing crisp, full flavoured, non alc beers that actually taste like beer.
