Ever tried Durif? You probably haven’t. But if you like your reds big, bold and a little bit wild, this one’s worth your time.

Think super ripe blackberries dunked in dark chocolate with a good kick of spice. Originally from France but now thriving in parts of Australia, especially Rutherglen, Durif’s got this rustic charm that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

We’ve got a small stash of the A.T. Richardson Hard Hill Road Durif. Proper country muscle from a tiny family-run vineyard that absolutely nails it. Juicy, generous and built for a steak night or a wintery Netflix binge.

Worth saving for something that matters.

If you’ve got something to celebrate or just want to drink something bloody special, this is it. The 2008 Jim Barry “The Armagh” Shiraz is deep, dark and ridiculously smooth. Big flavour without being over the top. Blackberries, a bit of spice, silky feel. One of those wines you remember.

Jim Barry’s a proper Clare Valley name. Started in the 50s, family still runs the show. This one comes off a little patch of vines they planted way back and only make when the vintage is top notch.

What Dave’s Drinking: for when you want something quality with dinner but don’t feel like splashing $100.

This old vine Cabernet from Château Tanunda is rich and generous, but still has that lift and freshness that keeps you coming back for another sip. It tastes like dark berries, crushed herbs and a bit of spice full but not heavy. The kind of wine that makes whatever you're eating feel a bit more special.

The winery’s been around since 1890, right in the heart of the Barossa. These vines were planted over 50 years ago, still dry grown, still tended the old-school way. No flash, just depth and detail that comes from vines that have been doing their thing for decades.

Dave reckons this is one of the best-value reds in the shop right now. It's seriously good for under $60.

When you're in the mood to drink something made by people who genuinely give a damn, this is where you start.

Blue Poles is the combined venture of Mark Gifford and Tim Markwell, a pair of experienced geologists who’ve turned their focus from rocks to rows of vines. Over the past decade or so, they've built one of Margaret River’s cult hero labels.
This is proper small-scale winemaking. Just two guys making serious wine in small batches. Their Cab Franc and Merlot blends in particular are the real deal, full of perfume, structure and old world charm.

Most of their wines go straight to a loyal mailing list, but we've got a small stash in the shop. If you're into reds with personality and a bit of pedigree, come grab one before they're gone.

Ever had one of those “bloody hell that’s good” moments after your first sip? That’s the vibe at Eureka Distilling.

Started by Philip Crossley (our very own Archimedes) Eureka is all about chasing those lightbulb moments in the still room. The name comes from the OG Eureka story, the one with the bathtub, the king and a very excited scientist yelling “I’ve found it!” Turns out, that energy works just as well for craft spirits.

Next Friday the 18th, from 4 to 7pm, we’re pouring free tastings of Eureka’s latest range. Just walk in.

Reckless Brewing is a small team doing things simply. They’re not chasing trends or trying to be clever for the sake of it. Just making beer that tastes good.

If you’re after something bold, the West Coast Double IPA brings plenty of hoppy flavour with that classic citrusy bite 🍊🌲. It’s strong, crisp and seriously satisfying.

Not sure what to grab? Here’s a little tip from Dave.

When you’re choosing a bottle, look for wines that come from a single vineyard. It usually means the winemaker is working with one patch of land and really letting that place speak through the wine. It’s less about mass production and more about character.

Also, back the regions that are known for doing a certain style really well. Hunter Valley Semillon, Margaret River Cabernet, Barossa Shiraz. They’ve got the track record for a reason. These wines have been grown there for generations because they just work.

If you’re after something tasty without blowing the budget, we’ve got three picks under $25 that are genuinely worth your time.

🍷 Flowstone Moonmilk Shiraz Grenache is smooth, juicy and just plain enjoyable. Great for pizza night or when friends come over and you want a bottle that’s easy to drink but still feels a bit special. Flowstone is a tiny winery in Margaret River run by a winemaker with decades of experience. He keeps things simple and focused.
🥂 3 Drops Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and refreshing without being too sharp. Think citrus, green apples and sunny afternoons. The name comes from the three drops that matter most on their family farm in WA — wine, olive oil and water. It’s honest and refreshing in every sense.
🍇 Charlish & Co Shiraz Viognier 2021 is full of flavour but still smooth, with just a little lift from the Viognier. Made by a small family team in the Adelaide Hills who keep production small and hands-on. It’s the kind of wine that makes you do a double take when you see the price.

When the afternoon sun hits and your brain clock's off 🍺

Super Chill Lager is Akasha's answer to those seeking a crisp, easy-drinking beer without sacrificing flavour. Brewed with chit malt and Saaz hops, it offers a light, refreshing bitterness and a clean finish, making it perfect for unwinding after a long day or enjoying with mates on a sunny afternoon.

Akasha Brewing started in 2015 when Dave Padden, a former sales and marketing executive turned brewer, decided to bring the bold, hop-forward beers he loved from the US to Sydney. After co-founding Riverside Brewing, he launched Akasha as a gypsy brewing operation, quickly moving into their own Five Dock warehouse within months. The space was a blank canvas, allowing them to build a brewery and taproom from scratch. Akasha's first release, Freshwater Pale Ale, gained immediate popularity and remains a staple in their lineup. Over the years, Akasha has grown into one of Australia's most respected independent breweries, known for their commitment to quality and innovation.

This one’s for when you want to open something proper. 🍷

Elderton’s Command Shiraz isn’t just any Barossa red — it’s one of those wines people talk about for a reason. Big, rich and full of flavour, but with the kind of smoothness you only get after a few years in bottle. The 2016 has hit that sweet spot now. Lots of dark fruit, a bit of spice, and a long, warm finish that hangs around.

The vines are over 125 years old, grown without irrigation in some of the best soil in the Barossa. The Ashmead family still runs the show from their old family home in Nuriootpa, and they’ve been making this wine for decades.

This isn’t one to open on a random Tuesday. Save it for a proper dinner, a big moment, or someone who’ll really appreciate it. Let us know if you want one set aside.
