Giro d'Italia: Friuli-Venezia Giulia!
The penultimate stage this evening winds through Italy's northeastern corner, bordering Austria, Slovenia and the Adriatic Sea. The white wines here are typically fresh and aromatic, while the reds tend to be structured and elegant. Friuli-Venezia Giulia is also famed for Italy's natural wine movement, with producers like Radikon making incredibly complex skin-contact wines with long aging potential.
This area is also the birthplace of one of the worlds most beloved amaros: Amaro Nonino. A richly layered digestif with notes of orange, vanilla and alpine herbs, it is the perfect balance of sweetness, bitterness and spice.
