Cold weather = Pinot Noir time

Luckily we’ve got this naughty number sitting on the shelves, Massale Pinot Noir from Kooyong, Victoria (and their wettest hinge in 25 years).

Naturally fermented and then left to have a snooze in some large format, old oak. This is classic, and great, Pinot Noir. Cherry, strawberry, an abundance of warm spices and a heady fragrance of autumn leaves. It’s light and bright with fine tannins and crunchy, refreshing acidity. The drinkability is off the charts.

The wine was bottled without fining and with minimal filtration.

It’s that time of the week folks! We are going to take a hop, skip and a jump into wine tastings across our stores;

In Maylands we have newcomers holding down the fort, they’re an independent (yay!) family business based in Margaret River, Western Australia. They craft small batches of handmade wine using grapes sourced from across WA. An emphasis on producing single vineyard wines that express the unique personality of the place where they’re grown.

Over in Subiaco we have 2021 Best new winery of the year and 2024 Halliday 5 star winery representing South Australia, these guys have more accolades than you can shake a stick at!

A Coupla modern classics to get your weekend started right, bring a friend, bring ya mom and the cheeses on us!!

Don’t let the threat of our impending nuclear Armageddon dissuade you from drinking yummy wine! Oh lawd we’ve got a cracker here!! For the uninitiated UnoLitro is a bigger bott. 1000mls, 1 litre, 0.879 imperial quarts of Italian sunshine, so first and foremost you’re getting bigger bang for your peso’s.

Number two this wine is made by absolute winemaking phenom and the matriarch of the sustainable wine movement in Italy; Elisabetta Foradori of fame. This is a who’s who of hitherto unknown Tuscan grape varietals; mostly Alicante (aka Grenache or Cannonau) but also Carignano, Mourvedre, Sangiovese, and Alicante Bouschet.

The wine is light and fresh, with bright aromas of cherry, raspberry, and subtle herbal notes. The palate is juicy and vibrant, with flavors of wild berries, light spice, and silky tannins with a clean finish. Grab a bottle and I’ll see you in the trenches comrades 🫡

Tasting time!!!!!!

Let's see who we got!!!

Over in SUBIACO:
We have the WA staple of winemaking Owner/winemaker Bruce Dukes has a wealth of winemaking experience both here and abroad, including a stint at Francis Ford Coppola's iconic Niebaum Coppola winery in the Napa Valley.

His wines are made from traditional Margaret River varieties with a focus on premium Chardonnay and Cabernet that rival the best of the region.

From the premium end to the more 'daily drinking' wines, everything made by the hands of Bruce is outstanding value for money!

Over in MAYLANDS:

THERE’S SOME HOADS IN THIS HOUSE!

We are rolling out the metaphorical red carpet for the return of the king. The father of frizzante, the daddy of disgorgement and the Zaddy of Zibbibo. The one and only Andrew “Hoads” Hoadley of is coming into Commune tomorrow for a bloody tasting!!

Having cut his teeth with stints in Piedmont, Abruzzo, Washington state and numerous vintages in our own great state of WA. Hoad’s launched La Violetta in 2008 and the rest as they say, is history.

A banging line up this Friday!! RUN DONT WALK

Sick of NZ Sauvignon Blanc? You want Sauvignon Blanc that’s grown up, occasionally punches a dart, reads poetry and has a subscription to monocle. Then head to Sancerre mes Ami’s!

Sancerre is in the Loire Valley, France. It’s famous for a few varieties but it’s super famous for its Sauvignon Blanc. This here isn’t your acid-so-high-your-teeth-might-shatter NZ Sauvy B!! Non non non! The vineyard it’s from “Les Garennes” is a located on a former forest, known for its biodiversity and limestone soil dating from the Jurassic Oxfordian era.

It’s got subtle minerality, dried grass and crisp green apple aromas and the five years in bottle has done it wonders.

Summer ain’t over when there’s a bottle of this open friends x

While the 2023 vintage was defined by finesse and delicacy, Manjimup’s warm, dry season has given the 2024 release greater depth and concentration.

OKAY FOLKS, TASTING LINEUP FOR TOMORROW ⬇️⬇️

OVER IN MAYLANDS:

Born amongst the chaos of 2020, Sarah Feehan, Jocelyn Mihalynuk and Mel Gray created for the love of collaboration.

Meeting organically during vintage, an effortless female bond and the Basket Range natural wine community laid the groundwork for a community-driven operation that’s about as wholesome as they come. Leaning into whole bunch pressing, wild ferments and skin contact funk, their natural wines celebrate the nuances of each special parcel of fruit. Soulful female winemaking energy, and we’re absolutely here for it.

OVER IN SUBIACO:
We have the wonderful Jeremy Schmolzer from VS&B blessing us with his presence a year after he shook up our wine drinkers at Commune!! (In a good way of course)

At VS&B craft stunningly elegant and detailed Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Nebbiolo from their Thorley and neighbouring Brunnen vineyards - the two highest altitude sites in Beechworth, as well as a range of Rieslings as compelling as any in Victoria, and an eclectic suite of smashable, alternative wines to get any party started!!
