It’s not a bad way to start the day. ☕️

It’s a little dreary outside, but there’s coffee, English muffins and local jam waiting inside, and it’s warm.

Some days it’s the simple things

We’ve been working hard for you today…

Rachel and I spent part of today taste-testing possible additions to The Wine Bar menu. Tough job, but we’re willing to make the sacrifice.

Today’s contender? Baked brie with black garlic, rosemary, honey and toasted focaccia.

After a thorough investigation (and perhaps a second or third taste ), we’re pleased to report it was a success🧀

Watch this space. A few new additions to The Wine Bar menu may be arriving soon.

There’s no better feeling than coming into the store on a Monday morning and seeing everything shining.

There’s also no faster way to spend your own money. I walk in as the owner and leave feeling like a customer.

A big thank you to our wonderful team who take such pride in making the store look beautiful. We notice it, and so do our customers. Thank you ❤️

Have you been yet?

We still can’t believe how good The Wine Bar looked on Friday night.

Seeing it full of conversation, laughter and good wine was one of those moments that reminded us why we created it in the first place.

If you’ve visited already, thank you. If not, consider this your invitation.

The Wine Bar is open until nine Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do🍷🧀🫒

See you in Kallista

From 1973–1978, this lovely gentleman, Lou Heys owned ‘our’ store and lived out the back. This week, his daughter and granddaughter brought him back to visit. What a privilege it was to show them through the premises and hear their stories of life in Kallista.

They very kindly gifted us some incredible treasures, including old photographs, local history books, and the original scales and weights once used in the post office. In return, we gave them a copy of the ‘new’ history book.

One of the things we’ve loved since taking over the store is hearing the memories people have of this building and this beautiful community. These visitors are not the first former owners to return, and every time it reminds us just how deeply connected people feel to this little store and corner of the hills.

If you pop in, we’d love to show you some of the treasures previous owners and families have gifted over the years, including the original dinner set and silverware, generously passed on by the great-great-grandson of the store’s very first owners. We’re so lucky in Kallista ❤️🌳

Felt so privileged to spend the evening at the Victorian Small Business Awards at the NGV last night.

Thank you to Daniela De Martino MP for the invitation and to Minister Natalie Suleyman and everyone involved in bringing the evening together.

It was great to hear the stories behind so many other Victorian small businesses and see the incredible range of businesses and people contributing to communities across the state. Congratulations to all the winners.

Always proud to represent small business from the Dandenong Ranges.

Oh my goodness, it’s still looking beautiful up here.

I’m definitely not a photographer, but I thought this looked pretty special this morning.

A lot of you drink our coffee, and we thought you might like to know a little more about the people and company behind it.

This is Ian from Heroica Coffee, Ian is one of those people who genuinely cares. About quality, consistency, relationships and just doing things properly.

We get so much lovely feedback about the coffee and we think that says a lot.

Ian’s story and what he’s building is actually really interesting, so if you’ve ever enjoyed a coffee with us, his website is worth a little look. ☕

We love being able to share and support good local people doing great things, all these amazing people in our little village.

Friday tastings are back 🍷

And we’re kicking things off with a pretty special Chardonnay line-up for International Chardonnay Day (yes a day late)

This Friday from 4:30–6:30 pm, Symeon will be pouring four Chardonnays side by side:– two from France– two from the Yarra Valley

Symeon’s done a heap of research so it’s a chance to explore different styles, regions and winemaking approaches as he guides you through the wines.

We’ve missed these Friday afternoons wine tastings and talking all things wine so we’re hoping to make these a regular thing again.

Pop in, have a taste and say hello
