♨️ A little Spirited Away magic. Over 130 years of sake history. An invitation to Dōgo, through your glass. 🍶

In Matsuyama, Japan, stands Dōgo Onsen Honkan—one of the inspirations behind the magical bathhouse in Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away. Just a short walk away, another piece of Dōgo’s story has been taking shape for over 130 years—Minakuchi sake.

Founded in 1895, just one year after the iconic bathhouse was built, Minakuchi Shuzō has grown alongside the hot spring town for generations. As the district’s only sake brewery, its identity is woven into the town, sharing a history of hospitality, craftsmanship and travellers passing through.

This October, we’re bringing a taste of that story to Sessions Box Hill.

Join us for an evening in Dōgo with Minakuchi through 8 sake expressions, explored in 4 thoughtfully chosen tasting pairs, discovering the differences in each glass that come alive when you taste them side by side, the place that connects them all as well as what makes each expression its own. With cheese, charcuterie and plenty of stories to share, settle in for an evening of sake, discovery and a taste of the town behind the bottles.

This is how yakitori is enjoyed in Japan—hot from the grill with an ice-cold chu-hai.

For this one-night collaboration, Chef Kenny has curated a special yakitori menu exclusively for the event, with each course paired with a different chu-hai directly imported from Japan.

This isn’t your usual wh**ky tasting.

On Thursday 27 August, George Leung in partnership with Casa De Vinos, will guide us through 6 mystery single malt Scotch whiskies from Thompson Bros. — selected blind from a rather ridiculous pool of possible bottles.

And when we say mystery… 👀

The potential pulls range from 5 to 27 years old, with names including Glen Garioch, Clynelish, Highland Park, Glen Grant, Glenrothes, Caol Ila, Glen Scotia, Tullibardine, Dalmore, Torabhaig, Ardnamurchan and plenty more.

Bourbon. Sherry. Port. PX. Red w**e. Rye. Peated. Unpeated.

You won’t know what’s in your glass until it’s unmasked. 🥃❓
