SATURDAY TASTING - The Rhone: Beautiful South

The Southern Rhône’s sun-drenched vineyards produce some of France’s most approachable and at the same time complex wines. Known for its warm Mediterranean climate, diverse terroirs, and a rich history of winemaking, the area is home to bold, spice-laden reds vibrant and lush whites, and expressive rosés.

The signature reds are bursting with sweet, ripe fruit flavours, and tell-tale garrigue notes reminiscent of the wild herbs and lavender that grow abundantly in the region. Grenache forms the heart of these predominantly blended wines with shiraz and mourvedre taking on an important but secondary role topping the list of an extensive cast of minor players like cinsault and carignan, along with obscure varieties like cunoise and muscardin. Together with talented winemaking, these combos bring light and shade to these sumptuous wines.

The whites bring with them spicy and exotic fruits alongside lush palates, the best presenting with a wonderful freshness that compliments their appealing warmth.

SATURDAY TASTING - The Rioja Revolution. Rioja has long been Spain’s flagship wine region, but in recent years, it has experienced a remarkable resurgence in both global interest and quality. Traditionally known for its structured, oak-aged reds, Rioja has undergone a quiet revolution, with winemakers embracing both tradition and innovation to produce wines of greater purity, balance, and terroir expression.

The renewed energy in Rioja has led to a surge in demand, with critics and collectors alike recognizing the region’s evolution. For the consumers, it’s a huge plus with the ‘new guard’ helping to reshape perceptions with terroir-focused bottlings that sit happily alongside historic producers of ‘classically’ styled Rioja balancing tradition and innovation making it one of the most exciting and dynamic wine regions today.

We have, of course, been following along closely and are keen to present a snapshot of the state-of-play so to speak with a combo of classics and new-wave Rioja all in one place.

LAST TICKETS - Littorai 30th Anniversary Dinner with Ted Lemon. 🎟️🍷🇺🇸

Ted Lemon is undoubtedly one of the most influential figures in American winemaking, best known for his pioneering work at Littorai. He has set the standard for site-driven, Burgundian-style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in California having extensive experience working at a number of Burgundy properties, including Roulot, Dujac, De Villaine, Roumier, Parent and Bruno Clair.

His philosophy is rooted in terroir, biodynamic farming, and minimal intervention. Lemon has spent decades crafting wines that reflect the delicate nuances of their vineyard origins and is today one of the region’s greatest producers.

LAST TICKETS - Mon Redon Chateauneufe du Pape Supper with Pierre Fabre 🇫🇷🍷⭐️

We are lucky again to have Pierre Fabre of Chateau Mon Redon joining us for this wonderful dinner and a look through a thrilling set of releases which includes some wonderful back vintage stock from this most venerable Chateauneuf estate.

The superb quality of its vineyards has been recognized throughout history and prior to the adaptation of the appellation controlee system it was one of the few ‘Grand Crus’ in the region (together with Chateau Rayas). With almost 100 hectares of Chateauneuf-du-Pape under vine, the majority of Mont-Redon’s vineyards are located in the appellation’s most favoured area, the high plateau which is covered in the large round pudding stones galets roulets that Châteauneuf is so well known for.

Oh, this one is going to be fun! This is a definite first for Prince and we are excited indeed to be hosting a pretty cool line-up of cider and sake.

While this one may seem to be a little unusual, for those who frequent the shop in South Melbourne on any kind of regular basis, you will know that we have long carried a pretty special range of great drinking sake along with a small but curated selection of Aussie, French and international ciders. Yes, wine is still our number one ‘thing’ but we are big nerds at heart and we love exploring the drinks category at large and all that it has to offer.

It’s back again and given last year’s popularity and the continuing stellar selection of great Bourgogne Rouge and Bourgogne Blanc we had to get this on the calendar again. The quality of the “entry-level” wines from many of the producers we have been trying is pretty impressive and given the skyrocketing prices in the region, they offer a bit of fresh air and welcome reprieve to the hip pocket. 🍷🇫🇷⭐️

A massive thank you to the super talented Sandra de Pury, whose family winemaking traditions can be traced back to 1863. Too many favourites to mention, but the Cabaret produced in our own back yard is meticulously world class.
