Mapleton Public House Opened in 1910, our family run country pub has beaut views, food and service. A place to connect to each other. Welcome home.

For centuries, humans have used food as a life source beyond sustenance. Food connects us – to the land, to the water, to the sky, to each other. One century of industrialised food has severed these bonds. In a leafy town within the Sunshine Coast hinterland there is a movement burgeoning. A recognition of this lost connection and a desire to rekindle, rebuild and reconnect to the land, to the water, to the sky, to each other.

Mapleton is worth the drive.

Surrounded by national parks, subtropical rainforest and waterfalls, this little pocket of the hinterland is best enjoyed without much of a plan. The air cools at night and the mist rolls in, settling over the valleys and treetops. Mornings can be spent exploring the natural world, followed by a long lunch on our deck, or simply remembering the pleasure of doing not much at all.

Just a few kms up the road, The Falls Farm is home to Pencil Creek Cottages, where you can settle in amongst the rolling hills and enjoy the quieter rhythms of life.

Stay a few nights with us, make a cheeky midweek escape of it. Take in the night skies of the Hinterland Dark Sky Reserve, sleep in, eat well and enjoy a change of pace.

Plenty of reasons to stay a little longer and no obligation to do anything at all.

Book directly via the link in our bio.

Been thinking for a while about why gigs feel so special here.

The Green Room is such an intimate space. Sometimes it feels like you’re almost backstage with the artist.

Shan from our good friends Jet Black Cat Music said something recently that really stuck with us. In the cities, people tend to walk off after gigs. But here and in other regional areas, no one leaves. They hang around. They talk to the artists. They get to know them. They buy their merch and have it signed. They share stories about why a particular song or album means so much to them. And the artists get to hear about the impact their music has had on someone’s life.

And people leave feeling connected.

There’s something important about spaces like this. Places that break down the barriers between the people making art and those experiencing it. Where music isn’t just another thing to consume, but something to participate in.

Maybe it’s a small antidote to the apathy and disconnection that seem to have crept into so much of modern life. Who knows, but we love it.

On Sunday, 20 December, Sunshine Coast sister duo North and Elsewhere return home on their Safe Harbour album tour, joined by Brisbane indie rock outfit Herston Grange in support.

Raised on folk music and family harmonies, sisters Hazel and Roanna Law weave beautiful harmonies with thoughtful songwriting exploring nature, connection and the human experience. Finalists for Youth Artist of the Year at the 2026 Australian Folk Music Awards and recent winners of the national ListenUp Music Songwriting Prize, the pair are making their mark on Australia’s folk scene.

Opening the afternoon, Herston Grange bring their blend of indie rock, folk influences and heartfelt songwriting, with their debut album vignettes on the way.

If these walls could talk…

A lovely customer recently brought in this fabulous Mapleton Tavern brochure from the 1980s, which got us chatting about the pubs long history.

Originally opening as the Ocean View Hotel in 1910, our old pub has been welcoming people up the mountain for well over a century. In its early days, it was even apparently advertised as the “coolest, best resort in Queensland.”

By the 80s, the promise was “solid, old-style hospitality” and “an Aussie country welcome at an Aussie country pub.”

Of course, it hasn’t all been quite so fancy. Like any good country pub, Mapleton has had its fair share of characters, colourful stories and, by all accounts, a few rough-and-tumble years along the way.

More than a century of b**rs, yarns, celebrations and everything in between.

We’d love to hear from you. What do you remember about the old Mapleton Pub? The characters, the stories, the nights that went a little sideways? Have you got old photographs tucked away somewhere?

We’re all ears.

Festival favourites and one of Australia’s most celebrated folk acts, The Hillbilly Goats are bringing their foot-stomping, harmony-rich mountain music to Mapleton Public House.

Crowned People’s Choice Australian Folk Band of the Year in 2022, Golden Fiddle recipients and four-time Golden Guitar finalists, the trio have built a reputation for their infectious live performances and deep love of traditional Appalachian music.

With an extraordinary collection of instruments, rich harmonies and plenty of storytelling, The Hillbilly Goats take audiences on a musical journey back to the roots of American folk and bluegrass.

Catch them at the Mapleton Pub on Sunday, 6 December!
