Today, I joined Jamie Wilson, Water Services Manager, Alex Eddy, Director of Engineering Services, Brendan Moylan MP, Leeah Daley, General Manager and NSW Minister for Water, Rose Jackson to discuss several important water security projects for the Gwydir Shire.
The meeting focused on delivering long-term water security outcomes for both Gravesend and Warialda.
Council sought support for 90% State funding towards the proposed $7 million Gravesend Water Treatment Plant, a project that would significantly improve water quality and reliability for the community.
We also discussed Warialda's water security, including support to convert the town's successful PFAS-free test bore into a permanent production bore through a variation to existing funding arrangements. This would secure an important long-term water source for the community.
The meeting was positive and constructive, with all parties recognising the importance of these projects for our communities. We appreciated the opportunity to outline the challenges facing our region and the benefits these investments would deliver for residents now and into the future.
I thank Minister Jackson for taking the time to meet with us and hear firsthand about our priorities. We will now await the outcome of these discussions as we continue advocating for reliable and sustainable water solutions across the Gwydir Shire.
