Château Pégau is one of our favorite Rhône producers here at Aszú Wines & Spirits. This Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc is a wine of texture—a blend of Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, and Ugni Blanc—resulting in a food-friendly, rich, and weighty wine that retains freshness and balance.

In this video, Advanced Sommelier Michail Kalampoukas walks you through the 2024 vintage, discussing the unique terroir of the Southern Rhône and why this bottle is a staple for white wine lovers.

Hi everyone. As many of you know, today is the National Shutdown. As an immigrant, this cause is especially personal to me.

I moved to NYC when I was barely 18 years old, and I know firsthand the challenges and the struggles many in our community are facing. I support this movement with everything I have.

However, as a small business owner, the reality is that I cannot afford to close our doors today. To keep this business alive, pay my bills, and continue providing health insurance for my employee and my family, we have to stay open. I believe that for an immigrant-owned business, staying successful, staying visible, and continuing to serve our community is its own form of protest.

We will be donating 10% of our revenue today to the FLX Rapid Response Network to help local families affected by these issues.

Come see us, and if you can, buy some local wines to support our community.

We love you, Geneva!

The history of Marchesi di Barolo dates back to 1814 when Marchesa Giulia di Barolo realized the potential of their Estate in Barolo. The Marchesa had even donated 325 barrels of her wine to King Carlo Alberto, King of Sardinia and Piedmont.

In fact, the Marchesa was the first to make Barolo the way we know it today, before that, it was made in a sweet sparkling style.

Marchesi di Barolo sources grapes from some of the most prestigious vineyards for their Barolo, Cannubi, Sarmassa, Ravera, Vignane, Preda and Boschetti. All Crus are vinified separately, then destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Wines typically undergo a 15 day maceration on the skins to extract tannins and structure. After malolactic fermentation is completed, half of the wine is aged for about one year in new French Barriques (225 Liter Barrels) and the other half in large, 30 hl, traditional Slavonian casks, before they are blended together in large casks for an additional year of aging to harmonize the wine.

Barolo

is considered the King of Italian, producing exclusively red wines based on Nebbiolo, achieving heights in quality and complexity that no other region can match.

Along with Barbaresco, Barolo was the first to one to receive a DOC status in 1966 and DOCG Status in 1980. There are 11 communes of productions, 3 of which are exclusively within Barolo, Barolo itself, Castiglione Faletto and Serralunga d’Alba. 8 other communes can produce Barolo also, La morra, Monforte d’Alba, Novello, Cherasco, Verduno, Grinzano Cavour, Diano d’Alba and Roddi.

Nebbiolo

One of the most alluring, age-worthy grapes known to mankind. In northern Italy and particularly in Piedmont, produces wines with complexity, structure and balance.

The wines are perfumed and high-toned with mostly red fruited aromatics, such as strawberry, cassis, red cherry and cranberry. Other common descriptors for Nebbiolo include: rose petals, violets, tar and truffle. Nebbiolo produces structured wines, with high tannins and high acidity, both elements that allow wines to age for decades.

Duncan Savage, besides having the coolest name in the world, is also an amazing winemaker.

Before he started making his own wines, he worked for Cape Point Vineyards- and for anyone who has had some of these wines back in the day- they were delicious!

He started his Urban winery in Salt River, suburb of Cape Town where he crafts incredible wines sourced from old-vine vineyards, all creatively named, such “Are we there yet” or “Follow the lines” as they were following the telephone lines trying to find an old vineyard planted with Cinsault.

Winemaking in South Africa dates back to the 1650s when the Dutch East India Company -and world’s first multinational corporation- colonized South Africa and used the Cape as a refreshment station.

First vines in South Africa were planted in 1955 by the First commander of South Africa, Jan Van Ribeeck. According to an entry from his diary dating to February, 2, 1659, he wrote
“Today, praise be to god, wine was made for the first time from Cape grapes. “

Stellenbosch, nestled between Simonsberg-Stellenbosch and Helderberg Mountains, is one of South Africa’s most prominent wine regions, also home to SA’s most important oenological School, University of Stellenbosch.

Planted mainly to BDX varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot as well as Pinotage.

Salt River Sauvignon Blanc comes from Stellenbosch, South Africa, steely, fresh and mineral.
Grapes for this wine come from vines from seven different plots, the core of which is an old, 30 plus year old bush-vine vineyard. Fermented in combination of stainless steel, concrete and old oak, and spends about 4 months on the lees, resulting in a wine that is fresh with round texture.
