Kilikanoon Wine Tasting
Friday 29 May 2026

Winemaker and proprietor Kevin Mitchell purchased the property of the same name in the hamlet of Penwortham in South Australia's picturesque Clare Valley. Hailing from a long line of wine grape growers, Kevin now had the opportunity to turn the vision of creating his own wine brand into a reality.

Kevin's father Mort Mitchell has been a defining influence, planting and tending to Kilikanoon's Golden Hillside suite of vineyards including the famed Mort's Block, for over 40 years. Kevin's fascination with terroir is a result of years spent playing and eventually working in these vineyards alongside his father. The first Kilikanoon branded wines from the 1997 vintage were four single vineyard wines, each from Kevin and Mort's vineyards. These were the 'Oracle' Shiraz, 'Prodigal' Grenache, 'Blocks Road' Cabernet and 'Mort's Block' Watervale Riesling.

Kililanoon needs no introduction at Strand Cellars we have been selling their wines for over 20 years.

A mystery of two to close will be a bit of fun and highly likely a Kilikanoon wine and not available.

We do hope to see you on the Strand this Friday as we prepare for the start of winter and the red season.

On pour tonight:
Kilikanoon Killerman's Run Riesling 2024
Kilikanoon Killerman's Run Pinot Gris 2024

Kilikanoon Killerman's Run Shiraz 2022
Kilikanoon Killerman's Run Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Kilikanoon Baudinet GSM 2024

Petaluma Wines Tasting
Friday 15 May 2026

In a 50-year career built on a lifelong obsession that hasn’t let up, Brian Croser has pioneered wine regions, influenced Australian winemaking and helped shape an entire industry.
He was the first to plant vines in the Adelaide Hill's Piccadilly Valley in 1979, and more recently he’s pushed the grape-growing boundaries into an area of the Fleurieu Peninsula far from any vines, where he saw potential and planted a now-thriving vineyard in 2003. A true trailblazer, mentor and industry leader, these days Brian lives on the very first vineyard he planted, The Tiers Vineyard in the Piccadilly Valley.
Back in 1979 when Brian broke ground in South Australia’s Piccadilly Valley, the premise of planting certain grape varieties in the regions where they were best suited was a revolutionary one. Brian pushed the idea of terroir-driven wine – one of his biggest contributions to Australian wine – and today it’s a widely accepted notion at the heart of all our premium regions.
‘It’s [about] finding the right places and planting them and managing them in the right way and learning from the experience.’ – Brian Croser
Starting his career as a winemaker with Thomas Hardy and Sons in 1969 was an auspicious beginning, and he went on to found a winemaking consultancy and develop the wine science course at Charles Sturt University in New South Wales. As a consultant and an educator, Brian had a huge influence on Australian winemakers in the 1970s and 80s, mentoring up-and-comers and shaping the community. He was Deputy Chancellor of the University of Adelaide for eight years from 1999 and was made a Doctor of the University for his service, having received a similar honour from Charles Sturt University
In the mid-1970s, Brian and his wife Ann launched the Petaluma winery, which went on to become a beacon for modern Australian wineries and wine brands. Petaluma and its vineyards were sold in 2001 but in recent years the Croser family was able to buy the original Petaluma Winery at the bottom of the Tiers Vineyard and rebadge it as Tapanappa Winery. They have always owned the vineyards in the Piccadilly Valley.
So this Friday we will celebrate Petaluma and Brian Croser and a great story or perseverance and commitment to quality in the Australian wine industry.
This is one not to be missed I do hope you can make it and no doubt there will be a surprise or two from the cellar.

Angove Family Winemakers

Angove Family Winemakers is a fifth-generation family owned and operated winery and distillery dedicated to crafting super premium and single vineyard wines from their organic vineyards in McLaren Vale, together with diverse organic wines and spirits from some of Australia’s great wine growing regions.
For five generations now the Angove family has been making wines to suit all palates and all budgets.
The Angoves are a family that go about their business with a minimum of fuss, but with plenty of attention to detail.

Angove Family Winemakers was founded in 1886 by Dr William Thomas Angove after his young family emigrated from Cornwall in England to Tea Tree Gully in the Adelaide foothills.

After establishing his medical practice, Dr Angove soon found himself experimenting with winemaking, at first using what he produced as tonics for his patients.
He quickly found a growing customer base, turning his hobby into a business and increasing his vineyard holdings from four to 40 hectares.

His son "Skipper" Angove 'Skipper' developed a small hobby enterprise to a multi-regional wine business producing a diverse range of wines for both local and export markets.

Skipper was instrumental in establishing the first-ever winery and distillery in Renmark, in the Riverland, in 1910.

He crafted Angove Family Winemakers into a significant player, producing fine, still, and fortified wines and developing one of Australia's most iconic spirits St Agnes Brandy.

Now in its fifth generation of family leadership, Angove Family Winemakers is "dedicated to embracing evolutionary ideas, with a focus on maintaining relevancy and ensuring sustainability for future generations to come".

The Angove family have definitely put a peg in the Ground in McLaren Vale making this wine region their home.

Hope to see you this Friday on the Strand for another enjoyable night with a great Australian winemaking family showcasing the wines they do well.

Italian Varietals Wine Tasting
Friday 10 April 2026

Italy is home to some of the best wines in the world, and for good reason. With an impressive number of 545 different grape varieties grown throughout the country, there is something for everyone. From the classic Chianti and Barolo to the full-bodied Barbera, to the light and crisp Pinot Grigio, to the lesser-known Nero d’Avola and Vermentino, Italy’s wine diversity is simply awe-inspiring.

Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or just starting to explore the world of wine, Italy is sure to impress. So join us at Strand Cellars this Friday for a glass of your favorite Italian wine and let us dive into the world of Italian grape varieties.

This should be interesting, informative and a bit of fun. You can always pick up a bottle and head straight to one of Croydon’s Italian restaurant whether Mario’s Pizzeria an institution in Croydon for over 40 years or Pane e Vino.
