ISSUE 20 — a fresh finish to the year 🥂

Our final Tasting Panel Newsletter for 2026 is here, and we’re swapping the reds table for something a little more sunny-ish!

With over 200 bottles blind tasted throughout the year, our judges gathered one last time to put sparkling, whites and rosés through their paces — looking for the flavour, freshness and value we’d happily recommend for spring and summer.

The new Picardy Chardonnay 2025 is now available, and it’s another impressive release from the Pannell family, one of WA’s most respected cool-climate w**e producers.

Estate-grown and hand-picked from their Pemberton vineyard, this Chardonnay brings together white peach, golden apple and vibrant citrus, complemented by delicate honeysuckle florals, subtle flinty notes and a touch of roasted almond.

We were fortunate enough to try this w**e at our recent master class, and its a belter. There’s a lovely creamy texture from carefully integrated French oak, balanced by bright acidity and a fine mineral edge that carries through to a long, elegant finish.

Refined without sacrificing flavour, it’s a beautifully composed Chardonnay that can be enjoyed now or tucked away in the cellar for years to come.

A cracking example of why Pemberton continues to produce some of Australia’s most exciting Chardonnay.

The new 2025 Tolpuddle w**es releases are now available — be quick because they wont last long.

From Tasmania’s cool Coal River Valley, Tolpuddle has become one of Australia’s benchmark names for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

• Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay 2025
Taut, precise and beautifully detailed, with bright citrus, peach, white nectarine, flinty complexity, grilled nut notes and a long mineral finish.

Elegant but deeply flavoured, showing dark fruit, violets, baking spice, star anise and fine savoury tannins, finishing long, composed and beautifully structured.

The Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz 2023 is now available — and this release comes with some very big recognition.

Named 2027 Halliday W**e Companion Shiraz of the Year and awarded 99 points, the 2023 Armagh sits among the very top tier of Australian Shiraz.

Intensely aromatic and beautifully layered, it shows purple florals, white pepper, green cardamom, sandalwood and fresh vanilla pod, before moving into blackberry, blueberry, molasses, cherry, cedar and bay leaf.

Powerful yet elegant, it carries dense fruit, graphite-like tannins, bright acidity and a long, persistent finish.

The Armagh vineyard was planted by Jim Barry in 1968 on a north-west facing slope near Clare, with low yields helping deliver the concentration and structure this w**e is known for.

A collector’s bottle, a special occasion w**e, and one of Australia’s great Shiraz releases.

House of Cards W**e Kings & Clouds Pinot Noir is now available — bright, silky and full of Margaret River charm.

Made from organically grown fruit, this is Pinot with plenty of personality: lifted red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, with a little spice, soft tannin and a smooth, easy finish.

It’s light enough to enjoy slightly chilled, but still has enough depth to sit beautifully alongside food — think roast chicken, mushroom dishes, charcuterie or a lazy Sunday lunch.

They say that the first sign of Spring is the release of one of WA’s greatest rosés. So far that legend holds true with Fraser Gallop Estate latest Rosé releasefor 2026.

A beautifully elegant Wilyabrup release made from 100% Shiraz and crafted in a crisp, Provençal-inspired style.

Ultra pale rose gold in the glass, it opens with delicate pomegranate, rose petal and soft nougat notes before moving into a vibrant palate of white peach, nectarine and bright red berries.

There’s a lovely mineral line, a touch of savoury detail and refreshing salinity that keeps everything precise, dry and seriously moreish.
