END OF AN ERA - Unfortunately after 18 years of owning / operating Carrara Village News due to a protracted leasing dispute the business permanently closed 26th January. This was not of our choosing but the escalating threats and intimidation from the landlords and their agents left us with no viable alternative. When the extensive redevelopment of our centre began in August 2023 plans were widely shared of an upmarket food emporium anchored by a fruit/veggie and complemented by smaller deli/butchers etc. Plans radically changed some time mid 2024 and the whole redeveloped centre is now becoming a ridiculous GYM.
Our tenancy is the only one occupied in a row of 5 which is going to be used as part of this project, and although we had a lease and option nothing was going to stand in the way of 'progress'.
Numerous customers have been devastated to hear of the loss of a community based local retailer many do not have access to independent transport and have no alternative option. Not one person when told of the planned gym positively replied.
We are proud of our achievements over the years keeping our business relevant and fresh in a declining sector especially our rebranding to a unique 7 years ago something which has been copied many times since.
Many thanks and much love to all of our local artisan suppliers, major contractors and most of all the hundreds of our wonderful customers who were the life of the business..
