It's been a day....and it is nowhere near over 🥴

6am or there abouts, heavy winds, no power eventually just about to the whole of ward 6 and 7, Hilton, Hilton college, Merrivale rural and residential, Sakabula, Merrivale Heights...Trees down, traffic jams, traffic controlling, cars getting squished, bundu bashing, chain sawing. BUT , got to see our true Ubuntu again 🇿🇦💪

Residents, SAPS, search and rescue, UMngeni Local Municipality , Msunduzi electricity teams, local businesses, plenty offers of assistance.
We still have areas with no power, it is bound to be a long haul ahead, I wish there was more I could but we have to leave it in the hands of our Eskom and Msunduzi men and woman out there in this icy conditions.

I so appreciate all the efforts by our behind the scene hero's in our communities ♥️ Xtra Merrivale

Please note:
There are serious warnings about VERY COLD weather coming this weekend and early next week with lots of snow close by.

*IMPORTANT POINTS*
* Bring your pets inside. 🐶 If you are cold, so are they. It is cruel to leave them outside in the cold especially without a blanket.

* If you are travelling, keep extra clothes, blanket, water and food on hand encase you get stuck in traffic. 🧥

* Make sure your open fires and heaters are safe. Look after children around fires, make sure it is far from furniture and bedding. 🔥

* Avoid travelling if you can if there is snow. The roads can be dangerous ❄️🌨️

*GENERAL*
Report fires, even small ones to authorities.

Please remember the full day, 12 hour outage planned for tomorrow. Msunduzi electricity team has confirmed that it will indeed go ahead tomorrow, Wednesday 04 June. There will be other maintenance work taking place in addition to above while the power is off.

Last Friday we had a fantastic Ward 6 DA fun run / walk fundraiser for the upcoming local government elections.

It was a great success and a huge thank you to the ward 6 branch for all the work put into the raffle and event 💙 Thank you to Rotunda Farm stall, Andrew Beach for allowing us to takeover your parking 😆

We have the annual potjie cook off competition in October 🥳
We need funds as a party to reach communities, branding, Tshirts, refreshments for activists and other resources. If you are keen to help please pop me a message on 082 716 0078 to donate a once off or a small monthly contribution to the DA team in uMngeni 💙

A large part of our population rely on public transport to get to work in our homes, gardens, businesses and shops that service our communities. The DA governed UMngeni Local Municipality has started with the roll out of bus shelters to help protect our public transport users safe from the elements. This is Merrivale close to Holiday road.

We will work towards increasing these protective spaces.
