Denver van der Bergh calls himself โa person in long-term recovery from alcohol addictionโ. After struggling with addiction for 25 years, not only has he been sober for 5 years, but during this time worked hard to rebuild my life, going back to study and graduated cm laude with a degree in Business Administration.
Seemingly keen to take on touch challenges โ he completed the 90 km Comrades Ultra-Marathon, which he sees as โa significant personal milestoneโ.
This year, he is pushing himself even further, taking on an even greater challenge with the aim of raising awareness and funds for those who cannot afford rehabilitation.
Denver will run 1680 km from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg, over 35 days and then participate in the Comrades Marathon.

The Mossel Bay Municipality through its Directorate Community Services facilitates programmes and collaborates with other stakeholders to educate communities against substance abuse. During these successful campaigns, recognized by SALGA in 2024, various support services provided by relevant mandated parties including the Department of Social Development are taken directly to the communities where it is needed most. The municipality also facilitates and convenes the quarterly meetings of the Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC), providing services and support to those affected by substance dependency.

He has raised over R14k on a crowd funding BackaBudy campaign. His running club has offered to sponsor for R10 for every kilometre that I will cover. All the proceeds on the BackaBuddy will go directly to charity. He wishes to keep my expenses for the journey separate.
