Women For Change, a women's rights organisation fighting against gender-based violence and femicide, is calling on women across South Africa to stay away from work for a day in protest.
"On 21 November, the women of South Africa shut down.
Because 5,578 women were murdered in one year.
Because a woman is killed every 2.5 hours.
Because South Africa's femicide rate has risen by 33.8% in just one year.
Because our femicide rate is six times the global average.
Because more than 117 rapes are reported every day and countless more go unheard.
Because our justice system is failing, and our government refuses to recognise this as the national emergency it is."
As we cannot risk put children at risk, we cannot encourage women not to work tomorrow ... but we can show our support. Please all wear black tomorrow, lie down for 15 minutes (or how long is suitable for your situation) at 12 and make your profiles purple.
