𝟵𝟳𝗧𝗛 𝗢𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗦: 𝗕𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 🎬🏆

Here’s my personal ranking of the 10 Best Picture nominees at this year’s Academy Awards!

𝘿𝙐𝙉𝙀: 𝙋𝘼𝙍𝙏 𝙏𝙒𝙊 remains to be my personal film of the year as a true cinematic spectacle that should dominate every categories.

Close contenders include 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩, 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙫𝙚, 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙪𝙗𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝘼𝙣𝙤𝙧𝙖, 𝙒𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙙, and 𝙉𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙡 𝘽𝙤𝙮𝙨 – all delivering impressive storytelling and craftsmanship.

𝘼 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙣 could've been done better, while the inclusion of 𝙀𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙖 𝙋𝙚́𝙧𝙚𝙯 (and having the most number of nominations!) is still questionable up to this day.

And as for 𝙄'𝙢 𝙎𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙃𝙚𝙧𝙚? I'm hearing great things about it, but it is yet to be seen! At least I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be in the last rank.

The past decade has given us an incredible lineup of Best Picture winners, but which ones truly stand the test of time? Here’s my definitive ranking of the last ten Best Picture champions (2015-2025):

(2019) is a masterpiece of class struggle and cinematic perfection which redefined what an Oscar winner could be! In (2022), multiversal madness meets emotional storytelling in this genre-bending triumph. Christopher Nolan's magnus opus (2023) is a thunderous historical epic that left an atomic mark on cinema.

(2016) is a deeply personal and poetic journey of identity and love. Still as powerful as ever. (2021) is a heartwarming underdog story that stole our hearts with authenticity and soul-stirring performances. The latest Oscar winner, (2025), continues to make waves with its fresh perspective and gripping storytelling.

Guillermo del Toro’s fantastical romance, (2017), proves that love has no boundaries—only beauty. (2015) is a tense and powerful journalistic thriller that reminds us of the impact of truth. is a quiet yet profound meditation on modern survival and the human spirit. (2018) is a divisive but heartfelt road trip drama about unlikely friendship and racial tensions.

𝙇𝙊𝙑𝙀 𝘾𝙃𝙄𝙇𝘿 • 2024 • Jane Oineza, RK Bagatsing • Directed by Jonathan Jurilla

A deeply intimate and emotionally resonant love story, director Jonathan Jurilla crafts a simple yet heartfelt heartfelt narrative about love, responsibility, and the unspoken challenges of raising their autistic child in an unforgiving world. Starring real-life couple Jane Oineza and RK Bagatsing, it’s a film that doesn’t just explore a certain relationship—but how it embodies love in the most raw and genuine way.

What sets this apart from other Filipino romantic dramas is its maturity. The much-anticipated sequel to 𝘏𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘰, 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦, 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘣𝘺𝘦 (2019) reunites Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards in another emotionally charged romantic overseas journey. Picking up years after Joy (Bernardo) and Ethan (Richards) parted ways, the film explores whether love can truly find its way back despite distance, time, the global pandemic and their individual growth. Their paths cross once more, leading to moments of nostalgia, hesitation, and rekindled feelings.

It’s a film that embraces the comfort of second chances and the enduring power of love—wrapped in the glossy, crowd-pleasing appeal that Star Cinema does best with GMA Pictures.
