What do bourbon, crushed ice, fresh mint, and simple syrup all have in common? They make a fantastic cocktail.

The Mint Julep, first printed in John Davis’ 1803 book titled Travels of Four and a Half Years in the United States of America, was described as a morning beverage for Virginians.

More than 200 years later, we’ve learned a thing or two. Pro tip: When muddling mint, be gentle! You want to release the oils without destroying the leaves. Trust us on this one.

Happy Mint Julep Day! 🌿🥃

With that, we raise you a (very) simple challenge: Can you dedicate just two minutes of your day to learn a little more about your ABC System? If so, take a look at the video below!

Ever wonder why the “E” in Whiskey is sometimes dropped?

It’s a matter of geography. The “E” denotes whiskey distilled in the United States and Ireland, while the “E” is dropped for whisky distilled anywhere else in the world.

The difference in spelling reflects Scot and Gaelic deviations of the term “Uisge Beatha,” meaning “Water of Life.”

Happy World Whisky Day, everyone!

To close out National Prevention Week, we have one more thing to say: recovery IS prevention!

Listen as Morgan Kauffman, Program Director with our grant partner, A Safe Place, discusses the magical transformation that takes place within their doors.

Healing from past trauma, addiction, and the weight of stigma are necessary steps to disrupt generational cycles and replace them with a legacy of health and hope.

We are honored to support programs that are leading the charge of prevention and recovery in our community, and our support is made possible by YOU!
