CLIMATE x BOURBON ⬇️

🥃 Classic: Made in KY/TN, or somewhere with a similar climate to bourbon’s historic heartland. Example: Starlight Distillery, IN

🥃 Hot Climate: From a climate notably hotter than the above, either dry or humid. Leads to a dense, strong, often oaky whiskey. Example: Dread River, AL

🥃 Cool Climate: Cold and snowy winters lead to softer, often more delicate whiskey with less oak. Example: Cedar Ridge, IA

🥃 High Altitude: A dry and mountainous climate leads to strong whiskey and concentrated flavors due to high evaporation. Example: Boulder Spirits, CO

Back in July, Whiskeyfellow (Jeff Schwartz) kindly reviewed all three expressions of the United States of Bourbon and had this to say:

“I must commend, nay, I stand up and give a rousing applause to Nora for making the United States of Bourbon program work, because unlike European or Canadian whiskies, it shouldn’t, not with as much mashbill variety as these 50 component whiskeys offer. Don’t get me wrong, Adam did a marvelous job at sourcing these whiskeys, but the true art form is blending. This makes you a legend, Nora (I’m still clapping).” - Jeff Schwartz

All the whiskies in the blend are straight bourbon distilled in their respective states (and therefore at least 51% corn). But in addition to corn, there is a lot of grain diversity in each mashbill, which made creating a cohesive whiskey all the more challenging!

Head to our website and select “show full barrel details” on any of our product pages (including United States of Bourbon) to see the mashbills, age statements, and cooperage of every whiskey!

Breweries and distilleries go together like, well, beer and whiskey!

It’s true for American single malt - many of our distillery partners, especially in the Pacific Northwest, were started by former brewers or work closely with acclaimed regional breweries.

But it’s not just single malt. Brewers already know half of the process for making whiskey, so that extra step is a natural evolution. So it’s no surprise that five of the distilleries in the United States of Bourbon are also breweries. Cheers to our friends and partners at:

📍 Brickway Distillery, Nebraska Brickway Brewery & Distillery
📍 Denali Spirits, Alaska Denali Spirits
📍 SanTan Distilling, Arizona SanTan Brewing + Distilling
📍 New Holland Distilling, Michigan New Holland Brewing
📍 Triple Eight Distillery Triple Eight Distillery
