Days after the events of September 11, 2001, a small US Army Special Forces unit (ODA 595 from Fort Campbell, KY) answered their nation’s call to defend it. They found themselves riding horseback in a Green Beret insertion into Northern Afghanistan to fight the Taliban. With the support of these brave men, the Northern Alliance successfully overthrew Mazar-i-Sharif, a Taliban stronghold. These incredibly patriotic men were given the nickname “The Horse Soldiers” and were honored with America’s Response Monument at Ground Zero, New York, in 2011.
Four ex-Green Berets of ODA 595, later came together to create the 16,000 square-foot American Freedom Distillery in St. Petersburg, Florida. Their whiskey is made in Ohio in collaboration with Middle West Spirits and bottled in Florida. This incredibly patriotic, unique bourbon is bottled in American made glass vials pressed by steel recovered from the twin towers. After 9/11, the New York City Port Authority donated steel recovered from the World Trade Center to Horse Soldier Bourbon. Horse Soldier Bourbon bottles are formed in molds of this steel to honor the spirit of resilience and service that arose after the attack on our nation.
Description:
Caramel, toasted corn, oak, cinnamon and dark fruit nose. The taste is fantastic with hints of oak, vanilla, nutmeg, some mild black pepper spice, and a light bit of honey. Good balance, medium body and a warm spicy feel.
