For those wondering what the smoke and visibility look like on the drive to Tahquamenon Falls, we wanted to share this video from today so you can see current conditions for yourself.

Our hearts are with everyone affected by the Canadian wildfires. We are thinking of the communities, families, and first responders impacted, and we hope for safer days and much-needed rain in the near future. ❤️

Even with the smoky skies, we’re grateful for every smiling face that makes the trip to visit us. Your support means so much to our team, and we’re here with a warm welcome, a smile, and all the beauty that Tahquamenon has to offer.

We hope to see you soon, and as always, please travel safely and keep an eye on changing air quality conditions if you’re planning a visit.

Egg-laying season is upon us! If you visit the park from late spring to early summer, you've got a good chance for a turtle encounter.

If you see a turtle around the park or near your campsite, it's best to leave it alone. Chances are good it's a female on her way to bury her eggs. Snapping turtles like this one might even use their powerful jaws if they get scared. This one appears to just be enjoying a little break in the clovers. 🐢☘

Every spring, Tahquamenon Falls in Michigan's Upper Peninsula becomes one of the most powerful waterfalls in the entire Midwest. 🌊 And most people have no idea it exists.

Fed by snowmelt from hundreds of square miles of wilderness, the Upper Falls stretches nearly 200 feet wide and drops 50 feet — making it one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi. That signature amber color? It comes from tannins leaching out of the cedar swamps upstream. Completely natural, completely stunning.

Spring is the best-kept secret season up here: the crowds haven't arrived yet, the forest is waking up, and the falls are absolutely roaring. If you've never made the drive to Luce County, this is your sign. 🍃
