It’s been a great season at the bait shop, flood and all. We will be shifting to Fall hours on October 1st. The fishing will still be great for a few more months, so keep coming to see us! We’re restocking the shop with all the best seasonal tackle and will continue to carry live bait year round. A big thank you to our community and our customers for helping us keep going through hard times!

Tackle re-stock happening now! Still no AC, no minnows, and absolutely no organization since we are removing flooring and shifting everything around daily… but hey, we are just happy to be here!!

Three boxes of tackle down, four more boxes to go. We’ll be restocked just in time for the weekend cool-down!

We have a restock of fundraising t-shirts available at the shop! The first batch sold like hotcakes, which is amazing because all of the proceeds are going directly toward flood recovery and rebuilding efforts for our neighbors in Noblesville. They are $15, cash only, available to purchase at Schwartz’s.

A special thanks to all who have already purchased a shirt, and to T&T Sales and Promotions for donating the first batch entirely.

The first round of funds from t-shirt sales will be going toward supporting the Riverwood Community. I don’t have details what that will look like just yet but am happy to share once arrangements have been made!

We are open 7-7 everyday but Sunday, we close at 6.

Thanks all!

In other non-flood news, an actual fishing thing happened today! Kent Vaughn stopped by the shop to show off a monster flathead catfish he just caught on Morse, weighing 38.19 lbs.

The state record flathead caught in Indiana was 79 lbs 8 oz caught in the White River, Lawrence County in 1966.

Cameron Gunter, a former staff member visiting from out of state, happened to be there with his camera and captured these great shots!

Nice catch, Kent! Glad we got to see it in person.

Ps. Fish was transported safely in a professional live-well and released alive. Always important to do with an impressively large fish!

Today is our first full day back in business at Schwartz’s since the flooding began on August 14th.

The bait shop is still here. The bobber, and its top, is sitting on our front porch. The lights are back on and our doors are open for business: soggy floors, loud fans, road dust and all. There is still much work to be done, but there always is.

We have received the most heartfelt support from our community: emotionally, physically, and financially.

Because we are back on our feet sooner than we ever imagined, and have raised enough with our GoFundMe to keep going, we would like to ask those of you who still feel inclined to help with flood recovery to consider donating and volunteering to those who have lost everything: our neighbor George at Son-Shine Auto, the Southwest Quad families, and the folks of Riverwood.

The luckiest little bait shop THANKS YOU from the bottom of our flooded basement and our hearts. Each day we remain in business is another Thank You. And another, and hopefully another. It’s all you, guys.

Thank you again,
Heather, Michael, and the Bait Shop family

We are still hopeful that the top of the bobber will resurface once the water recedes. If it does, we will need some help welding it back on. If it doesn’t, we will need to fabricate a new one. Anyone know a guy or gal? Can’t wait to get this beauty cleaned up and back on the bait shop porch where it belongs!

Our neighbor George at Son-Shine Auto Service is in need of volunteers to help get his 30+ year business back on its feet after this devastating flood. His daughter has made the most thoughtful sign up sheet to coordinate tasks to help with cleanup and heavy lifting.

We are sharing because we know many of our customers and friends are skilled, hardworking, selfless folks who would love nothing more than to help a neighbor in a time like this. We have received countless offers to help clean up the Bait Shop, and we could not be more grateful, but please consider signing up for George instead. He is a good man and an honest mechanic who needs the help far more than we all can imagine.

Editing to add that his daughter has also set up a GoFundMe to help with the endless expenses after a flood. We have learned firsthand how much of a difference that can make for a struggling business. Thank you all so much for your contributions to ours. We can’t even believe the generosity of this community.

💧FLOOD RECOVERY UPDATES💧

Alright! We have everything set for ways to sign up to help George and the crew at the shop as we enter into a week full of unknowns.

Below you’ll find links to a GoFundMe if you feel led to donate financially and link to a Google Form to let us know you’re interested in volunteering or donating services.

If you sign up to volunteer or donate services, I (George’s daughter, Hannah) will reach out when the time comes to coordinate clean up days, etc.

We visited the shop today and hope to be able to enter tomorrow.

‼️Any customers needing to get their vehicles… we will reach out as we are able to, please don’t come by the shop until you hear from George and we give you the clear. We need to be able to assess things and make sure we are able to safely enter the building before we have anyone else coming onto the property.

George is so thankful to everyone who’s been praying and offering to help… the road ahead is going to be long and overwhelming so please keep him in your prayers and we will continue to keep everyone updated on ways to help.
