These days few things make me happier than summer veggies. Thanks to for the local organic shallots, kale, zucchini, eggplant, basil, red potatoes, tomatoes, spinach and cucumbers....And I'm cracking open a bottle of I got from , just because I can.

It was either 1999 or 2000 the first time I heard . My little band opened for him in Fort Worth on his way down to SXSW. I don't know the year but I remember the show. Hearing his perform was like finding a new way to breathe. Now 20 years later, he's a master of his craft. And I can't believe I've never heard . Thanks for a great show, gentlemen...and all on a precarious barstool eating a damn fine burger and drinking a cold beer. God, I love Brown's Diner!

!!! Not only are you a great mom and friend, but an amazing cook. If you are looking for a Wednesday meal from an East Nashville neighbor, GET. ON. THIS. TRAIN! Carnitas with beans, slaw, sauce. I'm having mine with a Santa Barbara Pinot Noir. But sure, a cold beer would go equally well.

Ok, soap box time: At a wine tasting I did yesterday the subject of box wine came up. Everyone was surprised when I said yes, I do buy box wine. Then, this afternoon I went into my favorite wine shop, to get a bottle of white for a pasta/white wine dish I'm doing tonight and found this: many would argue THE white grape of northern Italy, Garganega - lean, refreshing, fragrant.

2nd picture: see that 3L ... that's 3 liters (4 bottles) of wine.

3rd picture: This box expires on Dec 1, 2024. The bag it's stored in isn't meant to age ... its built for drinking! And once you open the bag, the wine will last about a month (some say 6-8 weeks, but I don't like drinking wine as its turning to vinegar).

P.S. Not all box wine is the same. still sucks ... and, yes, it is, technically, wine.

Barolo and Barbaresco - two sides of the same coin. Both made from the Nebbiolo grape in just a few small villages in Piedmonte. Barolo more powerful and austere. Barbaresco, feminine and elegant. Either would go great with tonight's lasagna. Tonight it's Barbaresco.
