In 1953, a Philadelphia therapist named Albert Ellis started telling his patients something radical: stop paying me to talk in circles. Go sit somewhere warm, eat something good, and say the hard thing out loud to a person who actually knows you.

The profession hated it. Lunch counters loved it.

He was onto something. Half of therapy is just a safe place, a little ritual, and someone across the table who isn’t going anywhere for the next forty minutes. The other half is bread.

We’re not saying cancel your therapist. Keep your therapist. But some Tuesdays you don’t need a breakthrough. You need a sandwich cut in half, a seat by the window, and a friend who lets you finish the story without checking the time.
