FIL-AM NURSING AIDE DETAINED FOR PATIENT ASSAULT
Jovi Esperanza, a Filipino nursing aide in the US, was charged with alleged patient assault and has been deported to the Philippines after opting for voluntary deportation.
Esperanza was detained for three months at the Strafford County Correctional Facility in New Hampshire, along with his co-accused, Dhenmark Francisco.
Before his departure, Esperanza expressed gratitude to Migrante New Jersey for their support during his ordeal.
Esperanza and Francisco were charged with aggravated assault for allegedly beating a 52-year-old male patient at a rehabilitation facility in New Jersey in October 2024.
The victim was left in critical condition, and both Esperanza and Francisco claimed self-defense, stating that the patient had attacked them first.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) allocated funds for their legal assistance, but the amount could not be disbursed to Esperanza while was in custody.
Francisco remains detained at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Massachusetts.
