SAFETY ALERT: Starting on Thursday, July 17, the Sulphur Ranger District will implement Stage 1 fire restrictions. Stage 1 fire restrictions limit activities with a high potential of starting wildfires, including, but not limited to, campfire use. The purpose of these restrictions is to protect public health, safety, and natural resources by preventing wildfires.
During Stage 1 fire restrictions open fires are only permitted within Forest Service installed and maintained fire rings in developed recreation areas and campgrounds maintained by hosts. In areas where campfires are permitted, visitors should remember to follow proper fire maintenance guidelines and fully extinguishing the campfire with large amounts of water until all of the coals are out cold.
In other areas of the National Forests, visitors may use heating devices solely fueled by liquid or gas and featuring an on/off switch or valve. Whether starting a campfire in a developed site or using an approved heating device, visitors should never leave a fire unattended.
