Somewhere between the wildflowers, the golden light, and all that laughter… there are little moments that unfolded. 🌼

The ones that happen in between those perfect poses. The glances. The laughter. The personalities. The connection. Those little moments… THAT’s the stuff you’ll want to remember.

“There is no remedy for love but to love more.”
- Henry David Thoreau

Their love story began with the murder of Mufasa.
No, seriously. 😂
Chris answered a question about something he still couldn’t get over regarding “Mufasa’s murder.” Laura’s curiosity led them into a conversation about the absolute evil of Scar and somewhere during this conversation a seed was planted to grow.
Their first date took them hiking at East Rock Park, where those roots started growing a little deeper.
And growing is actually pretty fitting for these adventurous two. They’re hikers, seekers of hidden little places, and proud parents to approximately 50 plants. 🌿 So naturally, we started their engagement session tucked inside the perfect little greenhouse before heading to East Rock… right back where their story began.
Chris + Laura told me they are a team and each other’s best friends. And THAT is exactly what I saw during our time together. The way they settled into each other. The laughter. The strong hugs. The quiet touches. The kind of love where adventure and safety coexist and somehow, being wrapped in each other’s arms just feels like home.

There is, however, one potentially serious flaw in this relationship that I feel needs to be addressed…
They BOTH believe pineapple does not belong on pizza.
I beg to differ. LoL

Are you team Chris + Laura or team Nicole?! 😂
Does Pineapple belong on Pizza? 🍍🍕😒

For a few quiet moments, it felt as though the forest was holding its breath, creating a world where nothing existed except these two souls, completely at home in each other.

Looking through my viewfinder, I couldn’t help but smile. It was as if the trees and moss covered stones had built a sanctuary around them. Embracing them. As I pressed the shutter, I found myself thinking they looked as though they were encased in their own little terrarium… a perfect world for two people who feel most at home with each other.

Sometimes, the deepest connections don’t need direction.
They just exist. Love.

I couldn’t have staged this any better if I tried. While visiting the New York Public Library yesterday I found myself studying the murals outside the Rose Main Reading Room. This one held my attention. It has quite the Norman Rockwell-esque quality to it, though it was actually painted by James Wall Finn in 1911.
Titled “The Linotype-Merganthaler and Whitelaw Reid,” it is part of Finn’s mural series, “The Story of the Written Word.” It represents a pivotal moment in history when the invention of the Linotype machine and the rise of mass circulation of newspapers transformed how information was printed, shared and made accessible to the public. Ottmar Mergenthaler, inventor of the Linotype, and newspaper publisher Whitelaw Reid helped shape an era that democratized knowledge in ways the world had never seen before.

Then came the moment I hadn’t actually planned for.
I took some steps back to view the painting on a larger scale. Sitting below it were two strangers on opposite ends of the bench, quietly scrolling through a world that now exists in the palm of their hands.

Same pursuit of information, different technology.
Different relationship with one another.

To me, it is an extraordinary visual reminder of how society evolves. One painting. One photograph. Separated by over a century, telling the same story in completely different ways.
It’s fascinating to me how a single moment captured, can bridge over a hundred years of social evolution.

Bathed in window light and standing at the edge of a new beginning. A quiet moment to take it all in.
These quiet moments tell a story just as beautifully as everything that follows. Years from now these images won’t remind you how you looked, they will remind you how you felt.

As a photographer, you hope every couple is kind, adventurous, connected and willing to embrace whatever the day throws at them. These two exceeded all expectations. They leaned into the adventure, into each other, and into every moment with the kind of joy that’s impossible to fake. When the weather for the original plan was iffy we pivoted and had a midnight wedding instead welcoming the Summer Solstice and still tying the knot on a day that had special meaning to them.

A year later, I’m still grateful not only that I got to photograph their wedding day, but that I got to share Iceland with two people who appreciate wonder, adventure, and each other as much as they do.

May your marriage be as enduring as the ancient lava fields, as adventurous as the roads less traveled, and as bright as the midnight sun. Here’s to a lifetime of many more years of wonderful adventure in love.
