With just a few days of school left, here's your reminder to unplug as much as you can this summer; especially with your little ones around.
Put the phones away and turn off the screens. Be present in the moment. For heavens sake shut off your AI... a year or two ago you didn't even need it! It's a beast already devouring the earths resources, don't let it steal your brain too! Take your shoes off and feel the grass under your feet... Watch the sunrise or the sunset ... Sit on the porch.
Grow something with your kids. It doesn't have to be a lot. A cucumber plant and a cherry tomato plant on the patio will do. Let them dig in the dirt, get messy, water the plants, and watch something grow. A few days ago, I heard a child ask, "I wonder how they make grapes."
We've become so disconnected from where our food comes from, how things are made, and even from the rhythms of everyday life. We have more conveniences than any generation before us, yet somehow we all feel like we have less time. So we make up for it with substitutes. Fake food, fake flowers, AI generated content. We've become surrounded by things that imitate the real thing while slowly losing touch with what actually nourishes us as living breathing human beings.
This summer, choose REAL whenever you can. Real is good!!!
Grow something, cook real food from scratch, bake some bread, pick berries and make a pie, make homemade popsicles, read books together, build forts, catch fireflies, get your hands dirty, create things. Or just be bored sometimes... Boredom is amazing!
For those following a traditional school calendar, enjoy your children this summer. They are such a precious gift, and the years truly do fly by faster than we think.
