MAN ARRESTED FOR SETTING FIRES TO A DAYCARE‼️
DENTON, Texas - The proprietors of a Denton daycare were taken aback to discover that law enforcement officials have linked the suspect responsible for setting their facility ablaze to a series of arson incidents.
The individual apprehended for arson is also accountable for multiple other fires, including a residential fire that tragically resulted in the deaths of an elderly couple.
The Denton police department announced that 36-year-old John Howard Ore now faces two counts of arson leading to bodily injury or death. This revelation prompted daycare owners Charlie and Adrian Torry to reflect on the January evening when they received an alert indicating that the daycare's fire alarm had been activated.
Surveillance footage from January captures the daycare engulfed in flames. In December, Denton firefighters responded to a house fire on Houston Place, where a 103-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman ultimately succumbed to their injuries. Following an extensive investigation lasting several months, their deaths were classified as homicides.
The day prior, a fast-food establishment sustained significant damage from a fire that investigators assert was deliberately ignited. A month later, on January 21, police identified Ore as the individual depicted on the security footage from Tender Loving Care Learning Academy, using a rock to shatter a window and subsequently dousing the floor with gasoline as the fire erupted. Detectives indicated that all three fires exhibited similar methods of ignition.
In addition to capturing a clear image of Ore's face, the outside cameras recorded evidence of a discarded cigarette he left behind. This cigarette was collected as evidence, facilitating a swift arrest in January. Ore now confronts two first-degree felony charges.
His bail has been set at $2.1 million.
In January, the Torrys' daycare was only closed for a brief period to address the resulting damage. Denton police informed them that the clear surveillance footage and the DNA retrieved from the cigarette were instrumental in piecing together the details of the investigation and leading to the subsequent charges.
