A PRAYER FOR A FRIDAY AT THE ABBEY
Father,
Thank You for the gift of another Friday. Thank You for carrying us through another week—for the work we were able to do, the people we encountered, the challenges we faced, and the grace that sustained us through it all.
Friday reminds us that another week is coming to an end. It gives us an opportunity to pause, to look back with gratitude, and to recognize that every good gift ultimately comes from You. And now, as one week comes to a close and the weekend begins, thank You for the gift of rest, friendship, laughter, and time with the people around us.
For many, this has been a long week. There have been deadlines, responsibilities, frustrations, difficult conversations, and burdens carried from one day to the next. So tonight, we pray for everyone who walks through these doors.
Help us to slow down. Help us to breathe. Help us to be present. Your Word says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28.
Jesus, for those who are weary, give rest. For those carrying burdens, bring peace. For those who feel alone, bring friendship and community. May this Friday night be more than simply the end of another workweek. May it remind us that life is a gift, that people are worth slowing down for, and that we were never created to live hurried, isolated, and exhausted.
Thank You for good conversation, shared laughter, friendship, and the gift of gathering together. And as we enjoy the temporary rest of this evening and the beginning of a new weekend, remind us of the deeper rest our souls need—the rest that can only be found in You. “And you will find rest for your souls.” — Matthew 11:29. Amen.
