Joplin Missouri and Seagram’s 7
Joplin, Missouri, proudly claims its place in whiskey history thanks to Riley F. Robertson and his Old Rock Whiskey Distilling Company. In the early 1900s, Robertson established the distillery near the Missouri-Kansas state line, using soft water he discovered during mineral drilling to craft a smooth, high-quality whiskey.
After Prohibition ended in 1933, Robertson resumed operations and, in 1937, sold both the distillery and the recipe for Old Rock Whiskey to the Seagram Company. This recipe became the foundation for Seagram’s 7 Crown, one of America’s most iconic whiskeys.
Riley Robertson’s entrepreneurial spirit and innovation solidified Joplin’s contribution to whiskey culture, ensuring its legacy in every bottle of Seagram’s 7.
