We are releasing this exclusive new blend in honor of June being PTSD awareness month. For the months of May/June, Silent Hero Cigar is donating 10% of profits towards sponsoring a service dog for a local veteran with PTSD. The name Thousand Yard Stare was chosen for this release to highlight one of the most recognizable signs of trauma: dissociation.
The term “Thousand Yard Stare” originated during World War II, popularized by a painting done in 1944 by war artist Tom Lea called “The Two Thousand Yard Stare”. This painting depicted a shell-shocked Marine on Peleliu island. The expression refers to the blank, unfocused gaze of soldiers who have experienced extreme psychological trauma—appearing to look through or beyond their surroundings, detached from reality. It has since become a powerful symbol of combat-related PTSD.
