The world's first 'First-Growth'

Long before Bordeaux's famous 1855 classification, Tokaj was already leading the way in fine winemaking. In the 1730s, Tokaj became the world’s first classified wine region, with vineyards ranked into 'growths' based on quality. Its unique volcanic soils and perfect conditions for botrytised grapes didn’t just produce legendary wines like Tokaji Aszú — they set the foundation for modern wine classification systems. A true pioneer in wine history.

Harvest season is over! But for the winemakers, work is just beginning...

Buckets and buckets of juicy grapes have made their way to the winery and in 2 years' time, these grapes that were once hanging from vines will become some of the best wines that the world has seen.

We had an amazing harvest in 2023 and it will be one of the vintages to look out for!

At Gere, everything is done in house.

They operate as an estate where they grow, harvest, produce and bottle everything themselves. This gives the winemaker absolute control over every step of the process.

What's more, everything is done meticulously by hand.

So when you start looking past the labels and stereotypes, you'll open your eyes & mind to a world where only true quality matters.

S O L U S

This is what Merlots look like! They ripen slightly earlier than Cabernet Sauvignons and winemakers often rely on them (for blends) in cooler vintages.

It makes some of the BEST single varietal wines out there and Gere's Solus Merlot is one of them.

Cabernet Franc is grown all over the world but there is only one place where it is called the <Villányi Franc>

The unique terroir, climate and winemaking traditions give a distinct quality to the wines made from this variety and this is why the super premium quality level Cabernet Francs of Villány are called Villányi Franc.

These wines are elegant, complex, rich, powerful, dynamic, spicy and well-structured, with zesty acidity, velvety tannins and a great balance.

We have 5 cases of the Gere Villányi Franc arriving just before Christmas, so get ready.

Ripe or... not yet?

Some grape varieties like the Zinfandel & Pinot Noir are prone to uneven ripening within individual grape bunches.

That's one of the reasons why it's considered a difficult grape variety to work with. It takes a skilled oenologist to accurately and consistently decide when is the right time to harvest.

Other varieties that are prone to uneven ripening are Sangiovese, Kadarka and (sometimes) Merlot!
