Looking for something unique and memorable to gift to your loved ones on special occasions? These handmade, customized wooden bookmarks may be what you are looking for! I handmake it under the same brand of my surf wax, which is AKAI ITO. To give you an overview of my brand:

AKAI ITO, literally translated Red Thread, is a Japanese folk legend (coming from a Chinese story) and believes that two persons come into the world with a red thread tied to the little finger of the left hand. That red thread binds two souls who are destined to meet no matter where they are or how far apart they are. The thread is invisible, very long and indestructible and its purpose is to hold together the two people who are destined to be together forever. Although the string can get tangled and create very unpredictable knots making the meeting of the two soulmates very difficult, every untied tangle represents the overcoming of an obstacle in the relationship and will serve to make the bond stronger.

We chose AKAI ITO to represent our brand because it perfectly, if not romantically, describes our story. The sigil came to us through a friend. Primarily, it is a compass with a map at the bottom. What people do not know is that instead of the letter N which usually stands for North, it is replaced with the letter I, one of our initials, as one of us comes from the North of the Philippines. An arrow leads the letter I downwards to the South, specifically in Siargao Island where we had our fated encounter. You will see waves in the sigil (just on top of the map). Those are special waves as it signifies our majestic connection, the thing that binds us together. The thing that reminds us both of our kismet, our Akai Ito.

With this story, we hope to inspire kismet - unintended interactions that are actually destined. It could be fated encounters and interaction with someone, but mostly fated encounters and interactions with yourself.

Everything about these wooden bookmarks were done by my own hands, from making use of scrap hardwood, to cutting and shaving them to fit my liking. Words are then manually stamped letter by letter from poems or songs related to the idea of AKAI ITO. After this, I bake the wood just right to bring out it's natural color and scent. And lastly, I varnish each one on both sides to perfectly preserve it and give its final look.

I thought of offering this to you guys to give something nice and unique to your loved ones this coming Christmas, as well as helping me with my small project 🙂

Attached herewith is the logo of my brand as well as pics of some of my wooden bookmarks.

The words on the bookmarks to be ordered can be tailored to your liking - it can be words of your loved ones' fave song or poem to give a personal touch and then at the back, some holiday greetings and your initials with XO.

I sell each bookmark for 1,250 Philippine pesos. If you order, I will make arrangements for these bookmarks to reach you at additional cost 🙂

Hope to hear from you soon, lovely friends!

Sincerely yours,
Irish xx
