As the NMP museums nationwide are closed today in celebration of ๐„๐ข๐ ๐š๐ฅ-๐€๐๐ก๐š, we feature the "๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐š๐๐ข๐ค๐š", ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐๐ฎ๐ซ'๐š๐ง ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐๐š๐ฒ๐š๐ง๐ .

Declared a National Cultural Treasure in 2015 by the National Museum, the โ€œMaradikaโ€, the Qurโ€™an of Bayang, is considered one of the earliest manuscripts in Lanao. It bears the name โ€œ๐‘ด๐’‚๐’“๐’‚๐’…๐’Š๐’Œ๐’‚โ€ (similar to โ€œ๐‘ด๐’†๐’“๐’…๐’†๐’Œ๐’‚โ€ in the Malay language, meaning โ€œfreedomโ€) following the practice of bestowing a specific name on each existing copy of the Qurโ€™an, because of the limited copies available to Muslims in Lanao Del Sur during the early years of Islam in the area. The Maradika was believed to have been passed on to Sayyidnaโ€™s descendants and thus regarded as a family heirloom. It is handwritten in Arabic calligraphy.

The Qurโ€™an of Bayang is currently on display at the ๐…๐š๐ข๐ญ๐ก, ๐“๐ซ๐š๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐š๐œ๐ž: ๐๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐š๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐จ ๐€๐ซ๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐„๐ญ๐ก๐ง๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฉ๐ก๐ข๐œ ๐‚๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง exhibition at the Gallery 5, 3/F of the National Museum of Anthropology, which opened in October 2014 on the occasion of that yearโ€™s Eid al-Adha.
