The making of “Harihara” by Joshua Chiang and Replik.

For this piece, I reimagined the Chenla-era depiction of Harihara through the lens of 1960s San Francisco psychedelic art.

From the very beginning, I knew screen printing was the best way this artwork could truly come to life. There’s just something about the richness and vibrancy of screen printed colours that digital printing can never quite replicate.

“Harihara” by Joshua Chiang.

A new limited-edition work, this is my second piece using screen printing as a medium.

Printed at A1 size (59.4 × 83 cm), this edition is limited to 50, each one hand signed.

Harihara is a composite deity in Hinduism—uniting Vishnu (Hari) and Shiva (Hara), embodying both preservation and destruction. Once prominent in Cambodia during the Funan and Chenla periods, its presence waned with the rise of Angkor.

This work reimagines the Chenla-era depiction of Harihara through the lens of 1960s San Francisco psychedelic art.

Edition 1/50 is currently on display and for sale at in Phnom Penh as part of Makaras and Motordops: Joshua Chiang’s 10-Year Journey exhibition, on view until 30 May 2026.

"The Cats' Floating World" by Joshua Chiang

This is the final reveal.

Following an earlier look at the pen-and-ink process, the piece was completed digitally, with textures built from Japanese washi paper pressed onto gouache-coated plywood. This was a way to recreate the subtle grain and “chatter” found in traditional ukiyo-e woodblock prints.

Can’t believe it’s already been 2 years since we opened CamCam in this quirky little lane in the heart of Siem Reap.

I recently came across my early concept sketches for our shopfront window — each one quite different in its own way. In the end, we chose a modern interpretation of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, with their pet companion Tao resting under a tree of snakes.

We still wonder how many people realise they’re more than just a young couple looking at a mobile phone.

"The Cyclo Thief" by Joshua Chiang

This piece is created using traditional media - pen and ink on paper. Every dot and every stroke was drawn by hand, taking about 5 weeks to complete. So I guess my wife can't call me impatient anymore!

The original artwork is now on display at Plantation Urban Resort & Spa in Phnom Penh, as part of the exhibition Makaras and Motordops: Joshua Chiang's 10-year Journey.

Exhibition runs until 30 May 2026.
