Richebourg is an 18.3-acre Grand Cru pinot noir vineyard in the Cote de Nuits, within the commune of Vosne-Romanee. The vineyard lies just to the north of La Romanee and Romanee-Conti and is situated at elevations from 260 to 280 meters. The soil is a clay, pebble, limestone and sand mixture. Richebourg includes the subsection of Les Veroilles-sous-Richebourg. Principal landholders of Richebourg are Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, with 8.78 acres; Leroy, with 1.95 acres; and Gros Frere et Soeur, with 1.73 acres.

Pure perfection in red wine, the 2020 Château Pavie checks in as 50% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, all raised in 75% new French oak. Absolutely incredible in every way, it has a sensational bouquet of crème de cassis, smoked to***co, chocolaty oak, graphite, white truffle, and hints of flowers. Pure, full-bodied, and concentrated, with perfect integration of its fruit, oak, and tannins, it's one of those wines that needs to be tasted to be believed. Hats off to the P***e team for not following trends and for continuing to make a truly Grand Vin that offers a rare mix of power and elegance. Give bottles just 4-5 years and enjoy over the following three decades.

Roederer’s 2002 Cristal, poured from a magnum, is simply extraordinary—beyond words, really. The magnum size feels tailor-made for Champagne. Unlike still wines, which mature quietly in their bottles, Champagne undergoes its secondary fermentation right there in the glass. I’m certain this plays a huge role in why magnums (or even larger formats) often deliver such captivating results. Here, the texture, depth, and sheer class are breathtaking, with waves of apricot, warm spices, dried blossoms, and citrus confit unfolding endlessly. The 2002 exists in a timeless sweet spot—neither youthful nor aged, just perpetually stunning. Talk about an unforgettable way to kick off the evening. Incredible!

Full Colour. No sign of maturity. Full, rich, concentrated, backward nose. A wine with splendid backbone. Gently oaky. Very cassis in flavour. Full, rich, quite tannic still, but the tannins are very ripe. Splendid grip. Lovely, rich, classy, harmonious finish. This is very fine.

Château Margaux is one of the world’s most famous wine producers, and with good reason. The estate’s history dates to the 12th century, and by the 16th century its owners were rotating vineyards into their grain fields. Its wines were being exported by the early 18th century and they quickly became Bordeaux’s gold standard for quality. Thomas Jefferson, when he was ambassador to France, was especially fond of Château Margaux and noted approvingly that “there cannot be a better bottle of Bordeaux.” As one of the First Growth Chateaux – one of the four recognized as outstanding in France’s historic 1855 Bordeaux classification – Margaux has always been one of the aristocrats of the Medoc. Château Margaux’s 193 acres of vineyards yields an annual average of 200,000 bottles of Château Margaux and 200,000 bottles of Pavillon Rouge Château Margaux, its secondary line. Grape varietals grown at the chateau are 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

2011 Prieure Roch, Pinoterie

There are years where the fickleness of the weather prevent the even ripening of all the grapes on the bunches, and as the grapes cannot be harvested before the stems themselves fully ripen, on these years any extra ripe grapes will detach themselves from the stem while on the “table de tri”(sorting table). Since the traditional Burgundy vinification methods require the grapes to be fermented “entière” (in whole bunches) the loose berries are not used, despite being wonderfully ripe. However, taking all of these loose berries from every vendange, every cuve, permits us to unite all of our best crus and create one “cuvée spéciale”. This “tri” (selection) has in effect been made by the grapes themselves hence the name Pinoterie (Pinot-tri, understand the pun?). Natures choice, ripe voluptuous fruit, sheer pleasure.

2014 Screaming Eagle - The Flight [WA96]

Very deep purple-black, the 2014 Second Flight (composed of 57% Merlot and 43% Cabernet Sauvignon with no Cabernet Franc) is a little closed at this youthful stage, offering glimpses of blueberry compote, blackberry pie and cassis notions with touches of garrigue, bay leaves, black truffles, rose hips and underbrush plus a hint of wood smoke. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers wonderful freshness, with very firm, very finely grained tannins and layers of vibrant black fruits, finishing on a profound minerally note. With this vintage, we can see something of a stylistic departure, offering an expression of Merlot that is bright, refreshing, elegant and perfumed, and it is perhaps more similar to Screaming Eagle in terms of style than it has ever been. Beautiful!
